NFL Week 9 Totals Analysis

Defense was the name of the game this week as several high scoring teams were held in check allowing the under bet to have a slight advantage. Seven games stayed under the total, while six managed to go over. The Saints were held to 30 points keeping their game against Carolina under by two points, the Ravens only scored 7 points against Cincinnati in a game that stayed way under, and Dallas came up big against the Eagles holding them to 16 points in their 20-16 win on Sunday night.

Sunday, Nov. 8

(Byes: Buffalo, Cleveland, Minnesota, N.Y. Jets, Oakland, St. Louis)

Washington Redskins at Atlanta Falcons
Over/Under 41 || Result 48 OVER

RB Michael Turner carried the Falcons in this one running for 166 yards on 18 carries and two TD’s. Things have gone from bad to worse for the Redskins.

Arizona Cardinals at Chicago Bears
Over/Under 44.5 || Result 62 OVER

Kurt Warner followed up last week’s five interception game with five touchdowns in this one. The Cardinals are a great OVER team as win or lose they score a ton of points and give up a ton as well.

Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals
Over/Under 44 || Result 24 UNDER

Cincinnati controlled the game on the ground keeping Joe Flacco and the Baltimore offense on the sidelines for most of the game. The Ravens only has the ball for 20 minutes the whole game.

Houston Texans at Indianapolis Colts
Over/Under 48 || Result 37 UNDER

Mistakes, turnovers, and a missed 42 yard field goal as time expired prevent the Texans from pulling off the upset in Indianapolis.

Kansas City Chiefs at Jacksonville Jaguars
Over/Under 41.5 || Result 45 OVER

These two teams combined for 22 points in the 4th quarter to take this game over the total. Newly acquired WR Chris Chambers had 3 catches for 70 yards and two TD’s for the Chiefs.

Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots
Over/Under 46.4 || Result 44 UNDER

Miami used the Wildcat offense to keep this one close, but in the end Tom Brady and Randy Moss were just too much for the Dolphins to contain.

Green Bay Packers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Over/Under 44 || Result 66 OVER

Rookie QB Josh Freeman sparks Tampa’s offense with 3 TD’s including two in the 4th quarter as the Packers fall to 4-4 on the year.

Carolina Panthers at New Orleans Saints
Over/Under 52 || Result 50 UNDER

The Saints stumbled out of the gate as the Panthers led 17-6 at the half. They then went on to outscore Carolina 24-3 in the second half to secure their 8th straight win.

Detroit Lions at Seattle Seahawks
Over/Under 43 || Result 52 OVER

The Seahawks scored 28 unanswered points to erase a 17 point deficit. Lion’s rookie QB, Matthew Stafford continues to go through his growing pains, throwing 5 interceptions in this game

San Diego Chargers at New York Giants
Over/Under 47.5 || Result 41 UNDER

The Giants lose their fourth game in a row on a last minute 18 yard TD pass from Phillips Rivers to Vincent Jackson, as once again New York’s secondary fell apart in this 80 yard drive.

Tennessee Titans at San Francisco 49ers
Over/Under 41 || Result 61 OVER

The Titans were able to convert four turnovers (3 interceptions and 1 fumble) into 24 points to seal Tennessee’s second straight win of the year.

Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles
Over/Under 48.5 || Result 36 UNDER

Philadelphia’s inability to convert several key short yardage situations to keep drives going was the difference in this one as the Eagles were held to just 16 points.

Monday, Nov. 9

Pittsburgh Steelers at Denver Broncos Over/Under 39.5 Result 38 UNDER

The Steelers offense came alive in the second half scoring the last 21 points in their 28-10 win over the Broncos. Kyle Orton’s three interceptions did not help Denver’s cause.

We are beginning to see some separation between the best and the rest in several divisional races such as the Colts in the AFC South, Patriots in the AFC East, Vikings in the NFC North, and New Orleans in the NFC South, while some other divisions are starting to tighten up such as the AFC West with San Diego and Denver and the AFC North with Pittsburgh and Cincinnati.

YTD Record: 58-70
