NFL Week 7 Totals Analysis

Points were plentiful again this week as seven games went over the total, five games stayed under while one game; San Diego @ Kansas City was a push at 44. Two games; Indy @ St.Louis and Philly @ Washington went over on meaningless touchdowns late in the 4th quarter and one game almost doubled the total line as New Orleans and Miami put up 80 points between them.

Here is a brief recap of all the games.

Sunday, Oct. 25

(Byes: Baltimore, Denver, Detroit, Jacksonville, Seattle, Tennessee)

Chicago Bears at Cincinnati Bengals
Over/Under 42.5 || Result 55 OVER

Former Bear RB Cedric Benson ran for 189 yards and QB Carson Palmer threw 5 TD’s as the Bengals crushed the Bears 45-10.

Green Bay Packers at Cleveland Browns
Over/Under 42.5 || Result 34 UNDER

The key to this game was the protection the Packers offensive line gave QB Aaron Rodgers. He wasn’t sacked all day allowing him to throw for 246 yards and 3 TD’s.

San Francisco 49ers at Houston Texans
Over/Under 44 || Result 45 OVER

The 49ers made a valiant effort to win this a game after falling behind by 21 points in the first half, but a late interception by QB Alex Smith sealed the win for the Texans.

San Diego Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs
Over/Under 44 || Result 44 PUSH

Kansas City’s offense was held to just over 200 yards of total offense in a game that was completely dominated by the Chargers, who with this win evened their record to 3-3.

Minnesota Vikings at Pittsburgh Steelers
Over/Under 45.5 || Result 44 UNDER

This game seemed destined to go over after the Steelers returned two turnovers for TD’s and Viking WR Percy Harvin ran a kick back for a touchdown, all in the 4th quarter, but it just came up short.

Indianapolis Colts at St. Louis Rams
Over/Under 46 || Result 48 OVER

The under for this game was all but sealed up until Colts RB Chad Simpson broke free for a 31 yard touchdown run with a little over two minutes left in the game in a lopsided win.

New England Patriots vs.Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Over/Under 45 || Result 42 UNDER

In a game played in London’s Wembley Stadium, Tampa’s woes continue as even a less than perfect performance by Tom Brady who threw 3 TDs but 2 interceptions was enough to win this one comfortably.

Buffalo Bills at Carolina Panthers
Over/Under 40 || Result 29 UNDER

Jake Delhomme was back to his old ways throwing 3 interceptions that led to 14 points for the Bills. This one was destined to stay under from the start as neither team’s offense looked good.

New York Jets at Oakland Raiders
Over/Under 35 || Result 38 OVER

The Jets running attack, which gained 316 yards controlled the game giving New York a 12 minute advantage in time of possession. This win snapped a three game losing streak for the Jets.

Atlanta Falcons at Dallas Cowboys
Over/Under 47 || Result 58 OVER

Cowboy WR Miles Austin had another big day as he caught 6 balls for 172 yards and 2 TD’s. He is rapidly becoming Tony Romo’s favorite target.

New Orleans Saints at Miami Dolphins
Over/Under 47 || Result 80 OVER

The Saints erased a 24-3 deficit on their way to a six straight win. They scored 38 points in the second half to blow this game wide open.

Arizona Cardinals at New York Giants
Over/Under 46.5 || Result 41 UNDER

The Giants offense failed to show up for the second half of this game managing only 3 points and turning the ball over twice. QB Eli Manning was under constant pressure leading to 3 interceptions on the day.

Monday, Oct. 26

Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins
Over/Under 38 || Result 44 OVER

Two big touchdown plays by WR DeSean Jackson put this game away early, a 67 yard run and a 57 yard catch. A garbage TD by the Redskins with less than two minutes to play takes this game over the total.

As we approach the midway point of the season teams like New England, Indianapolis, and Pittsburgh in the AFC are back in top form, while in the NFC, New Orleans is clearly the best team.
