NFL Week 13 Totals Analysis

For the third week in a row the under bet was the solid play. 11 of 16 games stayed under the total this week which means that in the past 48 games 32 or 67% have stayed under. Ten of the games actual point totals were six or less points from their total line making this an extremely hard bet to figure out this week.

Give credit to the odds makers for really honing in this week, but then again that is what they get paid to do.

Thursday, Dec. 3

New York Jets vs. Buffalo Bills at Toronto

CB Darrelle Revis led the way for the Jets holding Bills’ WR Terrell Owens to three catches for 31 yards and intercepted a Ryan Fitzpatrick pass with two minutes to play to seal the win.

Sunday, Dec. 6

Michael Vick threw for one TD and ran for another against his old team as the Eagles roll over the Falcons. Philadelphia’s defense held Atlanta to seven points in the win.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Carolina Panthers
Over/Under 40 || Result 22 UNDER

Without QB Jake Delhomme and RB DeAngelo Williams, Carolina relied on a solid defensive effort to pressure Tampa Bay’s rookie QB Josh Freeman in to throwing 5 interceptions.

St. Louis Rams at Chicago Bears
Over/Under 41 || Result 26 UNDER

The Bears grinded out the win on the ground as QB Jay Cutler only passed the ball 17 times for 143 yards. He did not throw an interception for the first time in his last eight games.

Detroit Lions at Cincinnati Bengals
Over/Under 42 || Result 36 UNDER

With RB Cedric Benson back in the lineup, Cincinnati ran the ball 44 times for 119 yards to completely control the time of possession at 39 minutes to Detriot’s 21.

Tennessee Titans at Indianapolis Colts
Over/Under 46 || Result 44 UNDER

The Colts jumped out to a 21-3 lead on two Joseph Addai’s rushing TD’s and one passing TD from Peyton Manning to WR Austin Collie as the Titan’s winning streak ends at five.

Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars
Over/Under 47 || Result 41 UNDER

Jacksonville QB David Garrard had a solid day throwing for 238 yards and two TD’s, but more importantly he did not turn the ball over as the Jaguars improve to 7-5 on the year.

Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs
Over/Under 39 || Result 57 OVER

The Broncos ramped up their running game gaining 245 yards on the ground, while their defense held the Chiefs to only 222 yards of total offense.

Oakland Raiders at Pittsburgh Steelers
Over/Under 37 || Result 41 OVER

The Steelers have now lost four in a row as Oakland’s QB Bruce Gradkowski engineered two long 4th quarter touchdown drives including throwing an 11 yard strike to Louis Murphy to win the game with 15 seconds left to play.

New Orleans Saints at Washington Redskins
Over/Under 47 || Result 63 OVER

The Redskins blow another late lead this time giving the Saints an early Christmas present by missing a game clinching field goal and fumbling the ball away in overtime.

New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins
Over/Under 46 || Result 43 UNDER

Not counting their game in London, the Patriots have lost all five games on the road this season. With this loss New England falls to 7-5 and now has only a one game lead in the AFC East.

San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks
Over/Under 42 || Result 37 UNDER

Seattle QB Matt Hasselbeck’s two TD passes help Seattle not only beat their division rival, but pretty much knock them out of the playoff picture dropping the 49ers to 5-7 on the year.

Minnesota Vikings at Arizona Cardinals
Over/Under 49 || Result 47 UNDER

In a battle of veteran QB’s, Kurt Warner won this duel passing for 285 yards and 3 TD’s. Brett Favre passed for 275 yards and 2 TD’s but also threw two interceptions in this game after only throwing three all season long.

Monday, Dec. 7

Baltimore Ravens at Green Bay Packers
Over/Under 43 || Result 41 UNDER

Baltimore turned the ball over four times including twice in the red one and committed 12 penalties to continually shoot themselves in the foot in this game.

Give credit to teams like Philadelphia, N.Y. Giants and Green Bay for winning games they had to this time of year. For teams like Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Houston it may be time to start planning for next season.
