St. Louis Rams vs. Seattle Seahawks Preview

This game is for all the marbles, as the winner between the Seahawks (6-9) and Rams (7-8) this Sunday night will win the weak NFC West. No matter what happens the division winner will not have a winning record on the season, but will host a 1st round playoff game. NFL lines have the Rams as 2.5-point betting favorites in this game with a total of 41.5.

In their last games the Rams beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-17 while the Seahawks did not look good on either side of the ball losing 38-15 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

This season Seattle is 4-3 at home while the Rams are only 2-5 on the road.

The Rams have been a decent team to wager some money on this season at 10-5 ATS while those betting on Seattle are likely not happy campers since they are only 6-9 ATS. The Rams have only covered the spread one time in their last 7 games against the Seahawks. However, that one time was this season when the Rams beat the Seahawks 20-3 in week 4.

The Rams are looking for their first win in Seattle in 6 years and they also have only covered the spread one time in their last 5 games in the Great Northwest.

The Seahawks have lost 5 of their last 6 games including their last 3 when they gave up an average of 37.33 points per game. If they keep playing D like they have been and like they did in the week 4 loss to the Rams they will be watching the playoffs from home.

Not only is Seattle struggling on defense, but on offense as well. In their 3 game losing streak they are only averaging 18 ppg and on top of that they have QB issues. Starting QB Matt Hasselbeck is injured and is questionable for this game and if he cannot go Charlie Whitehurst will get his second career start. Football betting

Hasselbeck has 2 TD and 8 INT in his last 4 games and in Whitehurst’s only start of the season he only passed for 113 yards with 1 TD and 2 INT in a 41-7 blowout loss to the Giants in week 9. At least whoever is under center will be facing a Rams’ pass defense that only ranks 21st in the league. However, the Rams rank 4th in the league with 43 sacks and 16th with 16 picks. If they can get to the QB and shut down leading WR Mike Williams they should easily win this game.

The Seahawks’ rushing offense ranks dead last in the league and if the RB duo of Marshawn Lynch and Justin Forsett cannot pick up some yards against the Rams and their 15th ranked rushing D the QB, whoever it is, will have to do it all on offense.

Can the weak Seattle defense contain the Rams in this game? Sam Bradford has had a good rookie season and in the win over the 49ers he passed for a TD and was not picked off for the first time in 3 games. WR’s Danny Amendola (83 rec 680 yards 3 TD) and Brandon Gibson (50 rec 590 yards 2 TD) are his 2 main targets and he may get TE Mike Hoomanawanui (13 rec 146 yards 3 TD) back for this game. The Seattle pass defense only ranks 29th in the league giving up an average of 257.1 passing yards per game.

Bradford is having a legit season, but the Rams are much better when he gets some help. RB Steven Jackson is 3 yards shy of 1,200 yards on the season, but he only averaged 2 yards per carry last week in the win over the 49ers. He rushed for 70 in the win over Seattle earlier this season and he will surpass that amount this time around facing a Seahawks’ run defense that ranks 22nd in the league and gave up over 200 rushing yards last week to Tampa Bay.

The Seahawks are simply not a good team despite still being in the playoff race That will show this Sunday, as Bradford, Jackson, and the St. Louis defense will come out and play well, as the Rams will easily win and cover the 2.5-point spread and win the NFC West.

Betting Trends

The Rams are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and the Seahawks are only 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games. Even though the total went Under in the week 4 game between these 2 teams the Seahawks have an Over record of 8-0 in their last 8 games. I think the Over is the pick in this game, as I see the Rams scoring a lot of points on Seattle and their weak D.

Pick: Rams -2.5 and the Over
