Chiefs vs. Broncos: Week 10 NFL Lines & Spread Prediction

Point spread, ATS odds, and moneyline betting and preview article for the 2010 NFL Week 10 clash between the K.C. Chiefs vs. Denver Broncos…

Sunday NFL Betting – Chiefs Slipping Down Slippery Slope

The Kansas City Chiefs coughed up part of their AFC West lead last week in Oakland and a second straight loss in Denver would call the pessimists out of the woodwork. The Broncos are well-rested off of a bye week and this game is their season. Don’t expect them to be as flat as they were last time they were playing on Invesco Field.

How Can Kansas City Win?

Just do what they do: run the ball, stop the run and don’t make many mistakes.

The formula has been simple for the Chiefs and while it doesn’t seem like a blueprint to win a Super Bowl, it is definitely a game plan that makes a young team gain confidence on a weekly basis.

Last week was a minor setback against a hot Raiders squad. Two straight losses, though, would make a trend. The onus is going to be on the ground game for the Chiefs to continue to move the ball and keep the attention off of quarterback Matt Cassel. The Chiefs offensive line has been clearing out lanes all year long so Sunday should be no different. They made need to break a few big plays as the Broncos are going to be fired up.

On defense, the Chiefs just need to stop the run. There’s no question that the Broncos passing game is very good but what has that produced for them? Two wins? If the Broncos can’t run the ball again on Sunday and the Chiefs win the time of possession, that will likely produce a win.

How Can Denver Win?

The Broncos have a lot going for them this week, which might surprise the casual bettor. For starters, they are off a bye week and a very poor performance at home where they allowed the Oakland Raiders to score 59 points. Chances are, that loss has been stinging for two weeks and they are very motivated to make amends.

This week, the Broncos will get a healthy Knowshon Moreno in their lineup and they should be able to feature him quite a bit. The Broncos are dead last in the NFL in rushing and while the passing game has looked surprisingly good with Kyle Orton and Brandon Lloyd, the balance hasn’t been there with the run. If they can find that balance, they’ll be an above average offense on a weekly basis.

As for their defense, the Chiefs offense is nothing special. Quarterback Matt Cassel is a caretaker who doesn’t make mistakes, but he rarely makes big plays. If the Broncos can contain the Chiefs ground game, this could be a one-sided game.

Outlook

This is I for the Broncos: lose and your season is done. Lose and the season shifts to the theme of Tim Tebow’s development. Lose and Josh McDaniels’ chair warms up some more.

But they won’t lose.

The Broncos are coming off of a much-needed bye week and they have had time to prepare for the Chiefs, who are a fairly vanilla team that does a few things right. They’ll come out inspired after a poor showing at home and they’ll cut into the Chiefs lead in the AFC West.

Bet the Broncos to win this one.

Pick: Broncos +1
