NFL Lines – Manning Versus Manning on Sunday Night

For only the second time since Eli Manning’s entrance into the NFL, he will meet his brother in what promises to be a very interesting game. Interestingly, it is the older Manning brother that has all of the pressure on him.

The New York Giants started their season just as they were supposed to – with a win over the Carolina Panthers. Both the offense and the defense looked good in the game and will need to continue their strong play against an Indianapolis team that is head and shoulders above the Panthers.

Eli Manning and the passing offense looked strong. Manning passed for 262 yards and three touchdowns –  all to Hakeem Nicks. Manning was also able to find Mario Manningham on four occasions. Eli was poised, confident and efficient on a day in which he didn’t get a whole lot of help from his running game.

Ahmad Bradshaw started at running back and saw the majority of the carries against Carolina, but he didn’t do much. Brandon Jacobs did little in relief. After what Houston’s running game did to Indianapolis in Week 1, you have to figure that the Giants backfield will be better and will have to become a bigger part of this offense.

The Giants defense has to be confident ahead of their meeting in Indianapolis. The line was strong and the secondary was effective. If the defense can terrorize Peyton Manning the way they terrorized Matt Moore, they will make it tough for the Colts to get their first win of the season.

The Indianapolis Colts started the season with a thud despite a super-human effort from Peyton Manning. Two areas of the Colts game excelled in Week 1 but two areas clearly need some work.

Peyton Manning threw for 433 yards and three touchdowns in a losing effort in Week 1 and it was his possession receivers that benefitted. The offensive line couldn’t contain Mario Williams forcing Manning to go to his short reads. Expect much of the same with Justin Tuck looking to take Manning’s head off this week.

The running game was again a disappointment. Without a threat out of the backfield, teams will start to focus on the pass and make it difficult for the one dimension of the Colts offense to efficiently work.

Defensively, the pass defense was great, giving up only 107 yards to the best passer in the NFL. However, the rush defense was horrendous once again and surrendered 257 yards on the ground to Houston. Bob Sanders looks like he’s injured again which is a huge blow to this defense.

NFL Lines Prediction:

The New York Giants will try to run the ball – it is the formula for beating the Colts. In the last three regular season games, Indianapolis has given up over 200 yards rushing to the opposition. Running the ball chews the clock, moves the chains and most importantly, it keeps Peyton off the field. I think that Indianapolis will win the game, but five points is a little rich.

NFL Lines Pick: New York Giants +5
