Parity huh? There is no other league in the world that an average at best team like the Jacksonville Jaguars could be in first place in their division half way through a season. The Jags have played well however on both sides of the ball, and they have a little thing called Lady Luck on their side as well.

Jacksonville has won three straight games. David Gerrard followed up two spectacular outings with a down game against Cleveland last week, but he did enough for the Jags to post the victory. Jacksonville’s passing offense ranks 25th in the NFL with 200.30 yards per game.

Jacksonville and Maurice Jones-Drew rank 6th in the league in rushing -MJD has rushed for over 100 yards in three straight games (all wins coincidentally!) for the first time in his career. He gained over 200 combined yards last week in their win over Cleveland.

Stop the presses! Jacksonville has a defense! Last week they forced six turnovers and generated six sacks! Before you get too excited, consider that the Jags still own the league’s 28th ranked pass defense (264.60 yards per game) and the NFL’s 19th ranked run defense (112.20 yards per game). As a unit, they are still giving up 27 points per game.

The New York Giants are going through their typical mid-season slump. They have suffered injuries and they have been guilty of far too many turnovers. The Giants get to right the ship on Sunday, at home against one of the worst defenses in the game.

Eli Manning who ranks 8th among quarterbacks with 2595 yards and is 3rd in the NFL with 21 touchdowns had also been guilty of 16 interceptions and five fumbles. He will have his work cut out for him this week – Hakeem Nicks and Steve Smith are on the shelf, and newly signed Michael Clayton, Mario Manningham and Derek Hagan will be his primary weapons.

This will be an important game for the running game to get back on track. The 5th ranked rushing attack only gained 61 yards last week and was responsible for two fumbles. Look for Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs to be hugely motivated this week and to put a hurt on Jacksonville’s 19th ranked run D.

Defensively, the Giants sit in the Top 4 in almost every statistical category. They are 3rd against the pass and 4th against the run. They will be a matchup nightmare for the Jaguars this week.

Betting Prediction:

Jacksonville is 5-2 SU in their last seven games but just 2-5 ATS in their last seven games on the road. They are 4-11 SU in their 15 on the road and 0-6 ATS on the road against teams with winning records.

The New York Giants are 5-2 SU in their last seven games as well. However, the Giants are just 7-14 ATS in their last 21 games at home and 2-9 in their last nine as home favorites.

The New York Giants are a good football team – they just haven’t shown it in the last three weeks. The Jacksonville Jaguars are a slightly below average team – they haven’t shown it in the last three weeks. Look for the Giants to come out and establish the run. The banged up receivers won’t likely be much of a factor – the Giants running game will dominate. The Giants should win this game by at least 10 points and should expose the Jags for the frauds that they are.

Betting Pick: New York Giants -7
