Round 2 NBA Series Betting Odds + Preview

2009 NBA Championship Odds- Second Round

The second round of the NBA playoffs tipped off on Sunday with Denver pulling away from Dallas to win game one of their series. The first round had some great action and hard fought battles, especially between Chicago and Boston. For the most part all the favorites advanced onto round two, with Dallas taking out San Antonio being the only real upset. In this next round, the match ups will be tighter as the competition heats up. Here is a preview of each series as well as predictions of which teams are moving on, and which teams are going home.

Denver Nuggets vs. Dallas Mavericks

As mentioned earlier, Denver took game one of this series pulling away from the Mavs in the fourth quarter. The Nuggets handled a hot New Orleans team with relative ease in the first round, while Dallas upset the rapidly ageing Spurs in five games. This should be a good series as each team will use the home court to their advantage.

Prediction: I do not see the Nuggets losing at home as they prevail over the Mavs in 7 games.

NBA PLAYOFFS – Round 2
Series Prices/Future Odds
Nuggets  -350
Mavs +290

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Houston Rockets

In round one, the Rockets, behind the strong play of Yao Ming defeated the Portland Trailblazers in six games, while the Lakers cruised past the Utah Jazz in five games. The Lakers remain the odds on favorite to win the Western Conference and it would take a monumental effort on Houston’s part to change this fact.

Prediction: I look for the Rockets to win two at home, but fall in 6 games to LA.

Series Prices/Future Odds
Rockets +600
Lakers -1000

Orlando Magic vs. Boston Celtics

It took Orlando six games to dispose of the pesky Philadelphia 76er’s, winning the clincher with Dwight Howard watching as he served a one game suspension. Boston survived a seven game series for the ages against Chicago with four games being decided in overtime. After that kind of effort, you have to question how much does Boston have left in the tank as they take on a very talented Magic team.

Prediction: The Celtics will keep every game close, but Orlando will wear them down winning this series in 7 games.

NBA PLAYOFFS – Round 2
Series Prices/Future Odds
Magic -110
Celtics -110

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Atlanta Hawks

Cleveland put on a clinic in the first round with a four game sweep of Detroit.  Atlanta on the other hand, needed seven games to get past the Miami Heat. While it won’t be as easy as the first round, the Cavaliers take the next step in their quest for a championship beating the Hawks in 5. With the exception of Orlando over Boston, the favorites should all advance to their respective conference championships. Nothing in round one has caused me to think that we aren’t still headed for a Los Angeles-Cleveland final, as they are clearly the two best teams left in this field. This is the dream matchup we have waited all season to see, and they will not disappoint.

Prediction: That being said, Cleveland remains my pick to win the 2009 NBA Championship.

Series Prices/Future Odds
Cavs -2300
Hawks +1350
