Kansas City

The Kansas City Chiefs shocked the San Diego Chargers on Monday Night Football and got off to a nice 1-0 start. This week they’ll head on the road, but they do face a Cleveland team that they know they can beat if they play well.

It was all about special teams last week for Kansas City as Dexter McCluster and Javier Arenas showed the fans just how electric they can be when returning punts or kickoffs. The Chiefs has 219 return yards, but just 203 yards of total offense in their opening game. Clearly, they’ll need to pick up the offensive output in this one. Jamaal Charles is starting to look like a future star in the NFL with his quick moves and great cutting ability. The Chiefs need Matt Cassel and the passing game to get their act together if they are going to continue to surprise this year. Ever since he has come over from the Patriots Cassel has struggled. I expect this team to try to run as frequently as possible this weekend.

The Chiefs defense was pretty poor last year, but they do have some nice talent and they showed up on week one. Eric Berry will help the secondary a ton and Tamba Hali and Glen Dorsey are the key cogs of a talented defensive line. Derrick Johnson is a great rover at the linebacker position. The Chiefs need to continue to give the effort they did in week one and this defense could be much improved this year. Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

Cleveland

The Browns led for almost the entire game against Tampa Bay last week, but they let the game slip away from them. Jake Delhomme has missed three straight practices and many believe Seneca Wallace may be the starting quarterback this Sunday.

The Browns offense moved the ball fairly well last week, but three turnovers hurt them badly. Jerome Harrison and Peyton Hillis were both effective on the ground. I think the Browns need to try to find a way to incorporate Joshua Cribbs into their offense a little more, since he is definitely their best play maker. This team needs to get a good push from the offensive line so they can consistently run the football and control the football like they want to do. The offense still has quite a bit of room for improvement at this stage.

The Cleveland Browns defense looked pretty good last weekend, but we do have to remember they did play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Chiefs don’t have a high powered offense either, so the Browns defense may fare alright this week too. The Browns are extremely strong in the secondary, with Eric Wright, Sheldon Brown, and rookie Joe Haden roaming the field. The biggest issue this defense has is the front seven aren’t up to par when it comes to rushing the quarterback or stopping the run. They’ll need to improve up front in order to be competitive with the top teams in 2010.

The Pick:

Neither of these offenses are anything special at this point, but both teams have impressive kick return units. I am counting on both offenses struggling and this being a sloppy game overall. I think the under is the play in this one.

Kansas City vs. Cleveland Score Prediction: Kansas City 17 Cleveland 14
