College Football Betting – Boston College Eagles vs. Virginia Tech Hokies

The ACC will crown its champion on Saturday afternoon, and sports betting fanatics will have another chance to boost their bankrolls with BetUS Sportsbook when the Boston College Eagles (9-3, 7-4 ATS) clash with the Virginia Tech Hokies (8-4, 4-7 ATS) from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay.

This will be the second straight season that these two teams meet with a birth in the Orange Bowl on the line. Last season, V-Tech got the better of the Eagles by beating them 30-16. Earlier this season though, it was Boston College that took out the Hokies 28-23 in Chestnut Hill, covering the spread as three-point favorites.

The Eagles clinched the ACC Atlantic by virtue of their 28-21 victory against Maryland. It was the fourth straight victory both SU and ATS for Boston College bettors. RB Montel Harris ran for 116 yards on 24 carries, but the play of the game came on a fake field goal. Backup QB Billy Flutie hooked up with TE Jordon McMichael for a score from nine yards out that gave BC its first two-score lead of the game.

It was a horrible break for ‘under’ bettors, which should have had their third victory in the L/3 BC games, but a late pick six and a subsequent worthless Maryland touchdown with just 0:14 to go pushed the game past the game ‘total’ of 43.

The Eagles very quietly rank 8th in the NCAA in total defense, allowing just 276.8 yards per game, and are 14th in points per game allowed with 17.6.

Virginia Tech had to sweat it out for a long time against its rivals from Charlottesville, but in the end, the Hokies picked up a narrow 17-14 victory to give them the opportunity to defend its ACC title. QB Tyrod Taylor did a bit of everything on Saturday, as he threw for 137 yards and a touchdown, and paced the offense with 137 rushing yards.

As usual though, the story for V-Tech was its defense. The unit might have given up 173 rushing yards, but the pass defense was relentless allowing just 77 overall yards. The Hokies haven’t allowed more than 300 yards of offense to a team since September 27th this year, but the reason they aren’t a better squad is because the offense has been punchless toppling the 30-point plateau just once this season. The offense has just been putrid all season for Tech, as it ranks 111th in passing yards and 103rd in total yards.

‘Over’ bettors haven’t cashed a winning ticket in a VT game since October 25th.

Oddsmakers are expecting to see an excellent game after installing this line at a pick ‘em, with the game ‘total’ set at 39. Since then, the college football wagering public has turned BC into a short one-point favorite.

The 28-23 game earlier this season was the first time that a game went ‘over’ the ‘total’ between these two squads since 2003.

Which one of these former Big East squads will take home the ACC title and head to the Orange Bowl?
