College Hoops Handicapping – Nov 28th Edition

NCAAB Betting Starts Earlier Every Year

It used to be that sports betting fans would have to wait until after the Thanksgiving Holiday for NCAAB betting to really kick into gear.

Not so any more. The college basketball season appears to start earlier and earlier which means that online sportsbook betting fans need to start earlier in their college basketball betting handicapping.

Finding the best teams to make online wagers on is not an easy task. Below are the Top Five teams so far this season that have shown the ability to either beat or cover online betting spreads. Then, I’ve listed a few teams that online sportsbook wagering fans might want to stay away from this early in the season.

Let’s get to it!

Top Five College Basketball Wagering Interests So Far This Season

1. Louisville Cardinals – – 2 and 0 against the online betting spread – – Rick Pitino’s squad is also 2 and 0 straight-up. I love this team against the BetUS online wagering spread because they have the type of inside/outside game that will dominate lesser opponents. Well, the Cardinals get to play lesser opponents for a while now with games coming up against Western Kentucky, Indiana State and Ohio. They should cover in all three of those games. Don’t worry. Pitino has too much talent on the bench for this team to have a let down in the second half of games.

2. North Carolina Tar Heels – – 3 and 2 against the online betting spread – – Okay, 3 and 2 against the spread really doesn’t get me going but the truth about this team is that they can dominate at will. They started out the season going 1 and 2 against the spread. What does that tell us? It tells us that they are going to start heating up and when they do, forget it. This team is awesome. They have a game coming up against the mighty Michigan State Spartans on the road where they might actually receive points. If they do, then college basketball betting fans have to jump all over them.

3. Pittsburgh Panthers – – 1 and 1 against the online betting spread – – After their game against the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Pitt gets to take down Duquesne and Vermont. They are 4 and 0 straight-up which means they are a serious player in the Big East Conference. Why do they make the list? Because of their straight-up record and the fact that they might lose to Texas Tech, which, hopefully, would make them an online betting overlay when they take the court against Duquesne and Vermont. College basketball betting requires a look into the crystal ball. I see these guys covering spreads next week.

4. University of Alabama Birmingham Blazers – – 3 and 2 against the online betting spread – – The Blazers make the list for the simple fact that a lot of online sports betting fans aren’t paying attention to them. That means they should start to find themselves battling against smaller spreads. This is particularly true because they have games coming up against South Florida and Cincinnati. I had to look hard for this team and it took some creativity from a handicapping point-of-view, but that’s what makes a successful college basketball betting fan – – the ability to see beyond what’s put in front of you. Roll the dice with the Blazers and watch profits come to you.

5. Gonzaga Bulldogs – – 2 and 0 against the online betting spread – – The Bulldogs are a feisty bunch that will be tested in the next week and a half with games against Indiana, Washington State and Arizona. You know what? That makes me happy because in two out of those three games Gonzaga might actually be the underdog. Wouldn’t that be something? Gonzaga should run the table in those three difficult games. If they do, then online college basketball betting fans had better be there for it.

Low Five College Basketball Wagering Interest So Far This Season

1. UCLA Bruins – – 1 and 3 against the online betting spread – – Yes, the season is early but sports betting fans expected way more than what they have received so far from a Ben Howland coached team. They aren’t a bad team but they lost straight-up to Michigan and didn’t cover the spread against Miami of Ohio. Their schedule is going to get tougher.

2. Notre Dame Fighting Irish – – 1 and 2 against the online betting spread – – They were trounced in their first game of the season against the North Carolina Tar Heels. There’s no shame in that but not covering the spread against Loyola Marymount leads me to believe that this team will play hard against difficult squads, like they did when beating Texas, but will slack against teams they should obliterate off the face of the college basketball landscape. They’re iffy because the Big East is loaded this season.

3. Wisconsin Badgers – – 1 and 3 against the online betting spread – – Yes, straight-up this team is 4 and 1 with a loss against the Connecticut Huskies who should challenge for the Big East title. But what’s up with not covering against Iona, who they needed overtime to beat, and Long Beach State whom they only beat by seven points? This team just doesn’t have the closers’ mentality. That’s going to cost online betting fans a lot of profits if they stick with the Badgers.

4. Southern California Trojans – – 2 and 3 against the online betting spread – – Not covering against Seton Hall and New Mexico State are very, very worrisome. Once this team gets into Pac-10 play, online sports betting fans will be able to see exactly how good they are. But non covers like the ones they’ve done so far this season is a terrible sign.

5. Arizona Wildcats – – 1 and 2 against the online betting spread – – The trend is obvious regarding the Pac-10. The Pac has a lofty reputation which means that every team playing out of it is going to be given the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the BetUS odds makers. College basketball betting fans need to take advantage by playing against some of these teams. That’s the way I look at it anyhow. Arizona is an okay team but the change at the top, with Lute Olsen retiring, can’t be a good thing. The Wildcats’ reputation means that they will be favored or slight underdogs in games where they should get destroyed. They couldn’t cover against UAB or Florida Atlantic. I expect more of that this season.
