NFL Wild Card Weekend Preview & Predictions

The road to Super Bowl XLV begins this Saturday with the Wildcard Round of the NFL playoffs. All eight teams have high expectations of advancing onto the Divisional Round next weekend, but the reality is that only four will actually make it.

The following is a look at the pertinent statistics and trends for all four games along with my prediction for each. All odds are supplied courtesy of Bookmaker.com.

Wild Card Handicapping – Saturday, January 8

New Orleans at Seattle (NBC-TV)
Pointspread: New Orleans -11
Over/Under: 45

The Saints are 2-3 against the spread in their last five games on the road and 2-4 ATS in their last six games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of their last seven games. New Orleans is 1-7 ATS in its last seven games in January.

The Seahawks are 2-3 ATS in their last five home games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in nine of their last 10 games. Seattle is 4-1 ATS in its last five games in January.

Head-to-head, the Saints have won the last two games both straight-up and ATS including a 34-19 win as an 11-point home favorite in Week 11 of the regular season. The total went well over the 44 ½ point line. The Pick: New Orleans -11 and OVER

The Colts are 2-4 ATS in their last six games at home and 3-5 ATS in their last eight games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in six of their last nine games. They are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games as a favorite.

Head-to-head, Indianapolis has won three out of the last four games SU and is 2-2 ATS. The Colts beat the Jets 30-17 in last year’s AFC Championship game as an eight-point home favorite. The total went ‘over’ the 40 point line. The Pick: Indianapolis -2 ½ and OVER

Sunday, January 9

The Ravens are 3-1 ATS in their last four games on the road and 4-3 ATS in their last seven games overall. The total has stayed ‘under’ in four of their last six games. Baltimore is 4-1 ATS in its last five Wildcard games.

The Chiefs are 2-3 ATS in their last five home games and 4-3 ATS in their last seven games overall. The total has stayed ‘under’ in four of their last five games. Kansas City is 6-1 ATS in its last seven games following a SU loss.

Head-to-head, Baltimore has won the last two games both SU and ATS. The last time they met was in Week 1 of 2009 with the Ravens coming away with a 38-24 win as a 13-point home favorite. The total went way ‘over’ the 37 point line. The Pick: Baltimore -2 ½ and UNDER

The Packers are 3-2 ATS in their last five games on the road and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in three of their last five games. Green Bay is 4-1 ATS in its last five games as a road underdog.

The Eagles are 2-4 ATS in their last six games at home and 4-6 ATS in its last 10 games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of their last six games. Philadelphia is 1-4 in its last five games against the NFC.

Head-to-head, Philadelphia has won five of the last seven meetings SU and are 3-2 ATS, but Green Bay has won the last two games both SU and ATS. The last time they met was in Week 1 of the regular season with the Packers coming out on top 27-20 as a three-point road favorite. The total stayed just under the 47 ½-point.
