Betting on the NFL preseason may seem like a losing proposition to many bettors, but if you take some things into account it increases your chance to win. Just because the starters do not play the whole game and the preseason games do not really mean anything it does not mean that there are not things to look for when checking out NFL preseason odds.

You have to remember that in NFL preseason games the starters will play more the closer to the season it is. It is easier to bet on the last two NFL preseason games since they are easier to handicap.

Also, you have to remember that in preseason NFL betting handicapping games is just like handicapping regular season games. You still have to look at such things as team stats, such as the strength or weakness of a team’s offense and defense, and the weather and venue.

One key to preseason NFL betting is to handicap the whole game and not just the starters in the first or second quarter. In the regular season many games are won in the 4th quarters and that is the case in the preseason as well. Because of this look at team depth and if a team has a good backup and even third string QB.

Players are fighting for jobs in the second half of preseason games, but the team that has a deeper team tends to do better in the later part of a game.

You will hear the term two-deep, which means the team is two deep at that position. Check out what teams do not have two-deep at key positions, whether it be rookies or players battling for a job, as they may struggle because lack of experience.

Another thing to look at when Preseason NFL Betting is the head coaches. Check out the preseason record of various coaches and you can find which ones have good preseason records. This can show you how a coach views the preseason and if it just a practice or a real game where winning is important.

Many times if it is a new coach or one that may be on the hot-seat because of a poor previous season they will likely go for the win, as any win is important for these coaches. Another tip on watching coaches is that, unlike the regular season, in the preseason they will tell the media how much star players, generally the QB and RB, will play. You may find out what team will rest their starters and teams will play their starters for most of the first half.

Even though many do not like to wager when NFL preseason odds come out you may be missing out on making some green before the season even begins.

You have to look at a few different things in preseason NFL betting, but if you do so it only increases your chances at winning.
