The New York Giants will be looking for their first win over a team from the AFC South this season when they take on the Texans this Sunday afternoon at Reliant Stadium in Houston. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. (ET) and the game will be televised regionally on Fox.

New York’s defense finally showed up last week in a dominating performance against Chicago. The Giants sacked QB Jay Cutler nine times in the Bear’s first 20 plays, finally knocking him out of the game with a concussion in the second quarter. With a little help from their QB Eli Manning and the rest of the offense, the G-Men went onto win 17-3, easily covering the four-point spread as a home favorite. The total stayed way ‘under’ the 44 ½ point line. Houston knocked off Oakland last week 31-24 and covered as a 3 ½ point road favorite. The total went ‘over’ the 44 point line.

The big question for this game is, what version of the New York Giants is going to show up this week? In their two wins over Carolina and Chicago they have outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 points, giving up a total of just 21 points. In their two losses to Indianapolis and Tennessee, they have been outscored 67-24. It could be directly related to the level of competition they have faced, but this team still lacks consistency on both sides of the ball from week to week. NFL Betting

Manning has put up some decent numbers so far, completing 64.3 percent of his passes for 1,005 yards and five TD’s. He has also been sacked nine times, fumbled the ball away four times, and has thrown six interceptions in his first four games. The main problem has been his inability to put points on the board. The offense is ranked seventh in total yards per game, but 21st in points.

Houston has had little problem scoring points this season as they are ranked fourth in the league; averaging 27 per game. The Texans have struggled a bit with consistency as well, but have managed to come out on top in three of their first four games. The biggest difference from last year’s team is the emergence of a legitimate running game led by second year running back Arian Foster. Foster currently leads the NFL with 537 rushing yards; an average 134 yards per game. QB Matt Schaub is still putting up big numbers as the Texans are ranked ninth in average passing yards per game, but their running game is actually ranked first in the NFL.

The Texans main weakness has been on the defensive side of the ball. They have been unable to keep opposing teams out of the end zone as they are ranked last in total yards allowed and 26th in points allowed. Houston is ranked second against the run because most team’s game plan is to throw the ball against a unit that is giving up an average 337.8 yards per game through the air which is ranked dead last.

New York is 4-11 ATS in its last 15 games overall and 1-4 ATS in its last five games as an underdog. Houston is 4-1-1 ATS in its last six games overall and 5-1-1 ATS in its last seven games on grass. The total has gone ‘over’ in seven of the Giants last nine games and in four of the Texans last six games. Last week’s Bears game aside, both offenses should be able to score at will in what should be a high-scoring affair.

Giants/Texans Betting Trends:

NY Giants are 2-4 SU in their last 6 games
Houston is 7-1 SU in its last 8 games

The total has gone OVER in 4 of Houston’s last 5 games
Houston is 15-7 SU in its last 22 games at home
