NCAA Odds Football Picks – Number-Seven Nebraska Prepares For Big-12 Opener Thursday Night

The number-seven ranked Nebraska Cornhusker’s second road game of the season will also be their first within the Big-12, and a battle of unbeaten teams as they take on 4-0 Kansas State Wildcats at Bill Snyder stadium. Nebraska will be fighting for their first 5-0 start since 2003 against a school they have dominated in football, but it will not be easy given their deficiencies stopping the run so far this year, and that the Wildcats have been dominant moving the ball on the ground this sports betting weekend.

Nebraska Cornhuskers @ Kansas State Wildcats

Thursday October 6, 2010 – 7:30 PM ET
Bill Snyder Stadium, Manhattan, Kansas
Broadcast: ESPN
Odds: Nebraska – 12
Total: 51

Kansas State is led by the nations’ fifth-ranked running back in Daniel Thomas, which is bad news for a defense that has allowed an average of 139 yards per game through the first five weeks of the season. Nebraska is also coming off one of its worst offensive performances of the year, so preparation will be critical heading in to Thursday night’s game under the national spotlight. The Wildcats already have one Big-12 victory under their belts following a 27-20 win over Iowa State, but have not started 2-0 in conference play since 2000.

NCAA Handicapping: What Nebraska Will Have To Do To Win?

The Wildcats’ game is simple, centered around freshman quarterback Taylor Martinez and his seemingly limitless abilities. The Corona, California-native has already thrown for 532 yards while completing close to 60-percent of this throws, but has made an even bigger impact with his legs in rushing for over 130 yards in three of the first four games.

When Martinez wasn’t able to run as effectively against South Dakota State, the offense stalled managing just 17 offensive points. His eight rushing touchdowns ranks among the best in the country, with running back Roy Helu Jr. providing the perfect complement with an average of over seven yards per carry. The offense will need to be clicking as the defense has struggled against the run, which happens to be one of Kansas State’s college football betting strengths.

NCAA Handicapping: What Kansas State Will Have To Do To Win?

The Wildcats are 4-0 for a reason, and considering that UCLA and Iowa State aren’t at all that bad, it’s not because of an easy schedule. Senior running back Daniel Thomas ranks fifth in the nation with 628 rushing yards, adding six touchdowns along the way, and will be relied on heavily in this game if Kansas State is going to have any chance of staying perfect. This will mark the biggest game of the year so far for the Wildcats, and the hometown fans should provide them with a betting boost.

NCAA Handicapping: Outlook & Pick

While an upset would not be shocking, it is unlikely, as Nebraska is considered still to be one of the best teams in the country. However, given that it is a road game for the Cornhuskers, 12 points may be a little too much to spot.
