The number one team in the country, the Kansas Jayhawks will invade Reed Arena tonight to take on Texas A&M in a battle of two of the top teams in the Big 12. The Aggies are currently three games behind the Jayhawks in the conference and is looking to pull off a huge upset in front of the hometown crowd.

Texas A&M comes into this game with an overall record of 18-6 (7-3 in conference play) but is currently not ranked in the top 25 of any of the major polls. They have won six out of their last seven games but most of these wins have come against the have not’s in the Big 12. One thing they lack on their resume this season are some quality wins which could work against them come tournament time. In their last game, they held off Texas Tech to win 67-65. B.J. Holmes scored 18 points and Brian Davis pulled down 16 rebounds to help preserve the win. Through 24 games Donald Sloan is averaging 18.3 points per game to lead the Aggies. Derrick Roland is averaging 10.5 points per game and Davis is averaging 7.6 rebounds per game.

Kansas has stumbled only once this year in a non conference loss to Tennessee. They are 24-1 overall and a perfect 10-0 in Big 12 play. Since that loss back in early January, they have won 10 straight with the closest game being a two point 81-79 OT win over #9 Kansas State. In their last three games they beat Nebraska 75-64, #14Texas 80-68, and Iowa State 73-59. In the win over the Longhorns, Sophomore F Marcus Morris scored 18 points and Senior G Sherron Collins added 15 points along with four steals to pace the Jayhawks. Through 25 games Collins is the leading scorer, averaging 15.4 points per game. Xavier Henry is averaging 13.2 points per game and Morris is averaging 13.2. Junior C Cole Aldrich is averaging 11.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.

The Jayhawks boast one of the strongest and deepest lineups in men’s basketball this season and have the ability to beat you in a number of ways. A win tonight would bring them one step closer to their six straight Big 12 title. The Aggies have been able to beat the teams they were supposed to, but have been unable to get past the higher profile teams they have faced so far this season.
