Bragging rights for the state of Texas are on the line this Sunday afternoon as the Dallas Cowboys head down to Houston to take on the Texans in a 1 p.m.(ET) start at Reliant Stadium.

These two teams have been mirror images of one another this season with some very unexpected results. Dallas finds themselves at 0-2 with its entire season at an early crossroads while Houston is suddenly the toast of the town after a huge upset win over Indianapolis and an improbable come from behind victory over Washington.

The Cowboys are still trying to figure out how they have dug themselves into this early hole but the explanation is very simple; mistakes, turnovers, and all-around sloppy play from arguably the most talented team in the league.

In their 13-7 opening day loss to the Redskins they gave up seven points on a fumble return on the last play of the first half and gave back a game-winning seven points on a holding call on the last play of the game. Against Chicago this past Sunday, Dallas turned the ball over three times including two Tony Romo interceptions and ran the ball for a total of 36 yards in a 27-20 loss. NFL Betting

Through two games, the offense is ranked fourth in total yards and 26th in points scored. The defense has been somewhat better, but they are ranked 10th in total yards allowed and 19th in points allowed. These numbers just do not add up for a team that was one of the early favorites to win it all this season.

Houston has finally combined a legitimate running game with an explosive passing game that makes it one of the most dangerous teams in the league. RB Arian Foster ran for 231 yards on 33 carries in the Texans dominating 34-24 win over Indianapolis in Week 1. QB Matt Schaub completed 38-of 52 attempts for 497 yards and three TD’s in their dramatic 30-27 OT win over the Redskins last week. It is hard to believe that these two performances are both single-game numbers.

The Texans defense has been a whole other story. They are ranked 24th in points allowed, 31st in total yards allowed, and dead last against the pass. Both Peyton Manning and Donovan McNabb shredded their secondary which could be a huge liability against the Cowboys on Sunday.

Dallas is 5-11 against the spread in its last 16 road games, while Houston is 4-1-1 ATS in its last six games. This game is a golden opportunity for the Texans to take another giant step forward in establishing themselves as the early ‘team to beat’ in the AFC. They have the home field advantage and are facing a team on the brink of a major meltdown, but will still need to play near perfect ball to come away with the win. With their backs completely against the wall, the Cowboys will keep this one extremely close right to the end.

Cowboys/Texans Betting Trends:

Dallas is 5-11 ATS in its last 16 games on the road
Houston is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games
The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Dallas’s last 7 games on the road
The total has gone UNDER in 10 of Dallas’s last 13 games
Houston is 5-2 SU in its last 7 games at home
The total has gone OVER in 4 of Houston’s last 6 games at home
