Panthers vs. Cowboys Trends + Week 3 MNF Pick

Preview and Week 3 NFL cappers matchup tips for this weeks Carolina Panthers vs. Dallas Cowboys NFC matchup, plus an NFL Betting Preview, a look at the gambling trends, plus a free pick…

Monday Night Football from Dallas – Panthers at Cowboys

Carolina Panthers @ Dallas Cowboys
Monday, September 28 – Cowboys Stadium, Dallas, TX
Betting Line: Dallas -3, O/U 47

Two quarterbacks in desperate need of good game will be on display Monday night in Dallas. Tony Romo is coming off one of his worst games in the NFL, throwing for a paltry 127 yards and three interceptions last week in a 33-31 loss to the New York Giants. The loss only reaffirmed to the Romo-haters that he’s the most overrated quarterback in football.

Tonights Quick Hit Trends
Carolina is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games
Carolina is 1-4 SU in its last 5 games
Dallas is 2-4 ATS in its last 6 games
Dallas is 2-4 SU in its last 6 games

Jake Delhomme wasn’t horrible last week, throwing for 308 yards, a TD and a pick in a 28-20 loss against Atlanta, but he needs to get a win soon if he wants to keep his supporters and maybe even his job. The Panthers don’t really have a suitable backup to replace Delhomme, but when you’re starting a quarterback has thrown 10 interceptions in his last 3 games, you may not have a choice.

What The Panthers Have To Do To Win:

Jake Delhomme needs to keep the ball in the hands of his receivers, not his opponents. The best thing for Delhomme to do is not try to win the game with his arm, at least until some of the heat against him has died down. The Panthers running game is good enough with DeAngelo Williams (116 yards, 2 TD) and Jonathon Stewart (100 yards, 5.0 yards per carry) to carry the load until Delhomme can regain some confidence.

It may not be fair to Delhomme, but every interception he throws is going to be magnified because of the sheer amount he has been throwing lately. If he can make simple passes, not force anything and just let the runners do most of the work, the Panthers will win and the heat will be off Delhomme; at least for a little while.

The possible loss of Marion Barber (quad injury) will make the Carolina defense’s job that much easier. They’ll need all the help they can get, as they rank 30th in the league in points allowed and have just two sacks and one interception so far this season.

What The Cowboys Have To Do To Win:

Just like the Panthers, the Cowboys need better play from their quarterback, especially if Barber (203 yards, 2 TD’s) is unavailable. Romo regressed terribly from a great Week 1 showing last week and with fickle Cowboys fans he can ill afford another bad outing.

Luckily for Romo, Carolina’s defense is nothing special. Carolina starting safety Chris Harris is not expected to play. Romo must exploit the weak secondary and gain better chemistry with wideouts Roy Williams and Patrick Crayton, who have combined for nine catches and two touchdowns.

The Dallas defense also needs to improve dramatically. The Cowboys are the only team in the NFL without a sack or an interception to their credit. That stat should change Monday against a turnover-prone Carolina squad. Be aggressive against Delhomme and the turnovers should come.
Advice On The Total:

The Boys have yet to make an interception this season; Jake Delhomme recently has been giving them out like candy. One of these trends will end come Monday Night. Expect Delhomme to have a much better game this week, and expect Carolina’s two-headed monster of Williams and Stewart to run wild. Neither of the two teams have a particularly strong defenses, so be prepared for a high-scoring game.

Pick: Carolina +3 and over 47

One reply on “Panthers vs. Cowboys Trends + Week 3 MNF Pick”

This is the kind of game the Cowboys should win with ease as they usually play well against teams the are expected to beat.

Their problem is when they play the better teams in the league they tend to turn in their worse performance.
