2009 All State Sugar Bowl Utah vs. Alabama Preview
Alabama spent a good chunk of the season ranked No. 1 in the country, but lost when it mattered most in the SEC title game. That loss sent the Crimson Tide to the Louisiana Superdome for the Sugar Bowl where they will face the tough Utah Utes. It’s No. 4 Bama against unbeaten No. 7 Utah.
Oddsmakers currently have the Crimson Tide listed as 9½-point favorites versus the Utes, while the game’s total is sitting at 45½.
Utah is 12-0 SU, 7-3-1 ATS and Alabama is 12-1 SU, 9-4 ATS
The Sugar Bowl is a college football bowl game played in the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Sugar Bowl has been played annually since 1935. The Sugar Bowl is the second-oldest bowl game in the country, behind the Rose Bowl.
The Sugar Bowl hosted the BCS National Championship Game in 2000 and 2004. Under the current BCS alignment the Sugar Bowl will host the SEC champion unless they are involved in the BCS national championship game.
The 2009 Allstate Sugar Bowl will feature No. 4 Alabama, from the Southeastern Conference, and No. 6 Utah, from the Mountain West Conference, the Bowl Championship Series announced on Sunday.
This year’s sold out game will be played on Friday, Jan. 2. The game will be televised live by Fox Sports beginning at 7 p.m. from the Louisiana Superdome.
This will be the 13th Sugar Bowl appearance by the Crimson Tide, matching LSU for the most in history. Utah will be making its debut in the Sugar Bowl, marking the first appearance by a team which currently comprises the Mountain West since 1971, when Air Force lost to Tennessee. This will be the first meeting between Alabama and Utah.
The Allstate Sugar Bowl is celebrating its 75th anniversary with the playing of this year’s game.
