2008 Insight Bowl Minnesota vs. Kansas Preview

The Minnesota Golden Gophers were 7-1 and sitting pretty in the Big Ten at the end of October. Then, they four in a row and fell to 7-5 and a date with the Kansas Jayhawks December 31 at Sun Devil Stadium. The 7-5 teams will battle for the Insight Bowl.

Oddsmakers currently have the Jayhawks listed as 8½-point favorites versus the Golden Gophers, while the game’s total is sitting at 59.

Minnesota is 7-5 SU, 7-4 ATS and Kansas is 7-5 SU, 6-5 ATS

Starting in 2006, the Insight Bowl began featuring an annual matchup between teams from the Big Ten and the Big 12. The game was formerly known as the Copper Bowl from 1989 until 1996. This will be the seventh meeting between Kansas and Minnesota in a series that began in 1893. The series is tied 3-3 but the teams haven’t played each other since 1973.

Kansas will be making its fourth bowl appearance in the past seven years and will play in a bowl game in consecutive seasons for the first time in school history. The Jayhawks won at least seven games in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1960-61 after going 12-1 a year ago. Minnesota finished the regular season 7-5, and was ranked as high as No. 17 in the BCS standings, after winning just one game the previous year. The Golden Gophers will be making their eighth bowl appearance in the past 10 years and second Insight Bowl appearance in the last three years.
