UFC 125: Resolution
Date: Jan 01, 2011
Location: Las Vegas, Nevada
Venue: MGM Grand Garden Arena
Broadcast: Pay-per-view
Betting: Bet on UFC 124 at Sportsbook.com
Main card:
Frankie Edgar (13-1): +110
Gray Maynard (10-0): -140
Frankie Edgar takes on the only man that has defeated him inside the Octagon. Gray Maynard is an absolute Stud wrestler who overwhelmed Edgar in their first fight. Edgar is on quite a roll and proved worthy of his Title against BJ Penn. Maynard will try to take Edgar down guaranteed, but Edgar’s off-the-charts footwork will win this fight.
Pick: Frankie Edgar +110
Chris Leben (25-6): -180
Brian Stann (9-3): +150
Brian Stann represents Chris Leben’s next test. Leben is as tough a fighter as there is in the UFC. He won two fights in three weeks earlier this year and was the underdog in both fights. Leben is a top level “B Fighter” while Stann is only a “C+”.
Pick: Chris Leben -180
Clay Guida (27-11): -150
Takanori Gomi (32-6): +120
When Clay Guida is in a fight we all know that we are going to be entertained. The relentless bulldog climbs into the Octagon with Highlight reel Knockout artist Tankanori Gomi. Guida will have to get this fight to the ground – his average striking is no match for Gomi. I think that Gomi will able to keep this fight standing long enough to get the TKO
Pick: Takonori Gomi +120
Nate Diaz (13-5): -105
Dong Hyun Kim (13-0-1): -125
Dong Hyun Kim brings his well rounded game into the Octagon against Thug Nate Diaz. Nate Diaz is a tough guy who is dangerous on his feet and on the ground. His grit, strikes and submissions will be too much for Kim in this one.
Pick: Nate Diaz -105
Brandon Vera (11-5): +130
Thiago Silva (14-2): -160
Former prospect Brandon Vera takes on the best striker in the Light Heavyweight division. Thiago Silva hit hard with every appendage and is a threat as long is the fight standing. The only chance for Vera is to take this fight to the ground – Silva has very good takedown defense. This fight will end with Vera staring at the lights.
Pick: Thiago Silva -160
Preliminary card:
Marcus Davis (22-8-0): +200
Jeremy Stephens (18-6-0): -260
Marcus Davis makes his Lightweight debut against fellow striker and accomplished wrestler, Jeremy Stephens. Davis, if the cut in weight doesn’t affect him, he will have the size and the striking advantage in this one. Davis wants to make a name for himself at Lightweight and it all starts now.
Pick: Marcus Davis +200
Dustin Poirier (8-1-0): +210
Josh Grispi (14-1): -280
It was supposed to be a Featherweight title fight for Josh Grispi, but Champion Jose Aldo pulled out with injury. Enter Dustin Poirier who is tough and well rounded but had no time to prepare for this fight. Grispi is an elite Featherweight and Poirier is not.
Pick: Josh Grispi -280
Phil Baroni (13-12): +175
Brad Tavares (6-0): -220
Phil Baroni may be the only UFC fighter with a 13-12 record. He is a super tough guy but he is usually good for only one round in his fights. His opponents have learned that if you weather the storm, Baroni will run out of gas. Brad Tavares brings a decent all around game and has very good conditioning. This pick is easy!
Pick: Brad Tavares -220
Daniel Roberts (11-1): -105
Greg Soto (8-1-0): -125
Two dangerous ground fighters square off with hopes of climbing the Welterweight ladder. Both men came into the UFC highly touted and both suffered losses in their debuts. Roberts is the better rounded fighter and appears to have fewer holes in his game
Pick: Daniel Roberts -105
Jacob Volkmann (11-2): +200
Antonio McKee (25-3-2): -260
Highly touted wrestler and 10 year veteran of MMA finally makes his UFC debut on Saturday night. Antonio McKee hasn’t lost since 2003. McKee takes on Jacob Volkmann who is 2-2 in the organization. McKee will smother his way to victory in this one.
Pick: Antonio McKee -260
Mike Brown (23-6-0): -260
Diego Nunes (15-1-0): +200
UFC fans get their first look at the Featherweights when two quality fighters take to the Octagon. Brown is a former WEC champion who brings superb boxing and power with excellent submissions. Nunes is the poor man’s version of Brown in this fight. Brown is better at every aspect of MMA.
Pick: Mike Brown -260
