MMA: KIMBO TAKES ON A LEGEND

Kimbo Slice returns to primetime television this Saturday night, but this time he’ll need to beat a legend in Ken Shamrock to remain undefeated.

Sportsbook.com has the odds for one of the biggest MMA events of the year broadcast nationally on CBS. Slice is -310 and Shamrock is +240 for this Elite XC heavyweight matchup taking place from Sunrise, Florida.

The 34-year-old Slice was first made famous as an Internet street fighter before getting into mixed martial arts.

He first appeared on CBS in a May 31st bout versus James Thompson. Almost 5 Million viewers tuned in that night and saw Slice deliver a third round TKO.

That was despite the fact that Thompson did well in the first two rounds, especially on the ground. The win improved Slice’s record to 3-0 overall but left a lot of doubts about his overall fighting ability.

Shamrock is a 44-year-old UFC Hall of Famer who boasts a 26-13-2 career record. However, he has lost his last five fights, all in the first round, and he hasn’t won a fight in more than four years. Shamrock believes that an assortment of injuries were a big cause of his recent poor performances, although he refuses to use it as an excuse.

“I have my reasons but they’re just excuses,” Shamrock said. “But I will tell you this, on Oct. 4th I will shut everyone up and I will make amends for those fights by putting Kimbo’s lights out.

“I’ve been given an opportunity right here and now to wash all that away and I’m not passing that up,” he added.

Shamrock is a former pro wrestler who knows his +240 odds improve dramatically if he can get Slice on the ground and let his experience take over. Of his 26 wins, 22 have come by submission earning him the nickname “The World’s Most Dangerous Man”, but whether he has enough left in the tank to win this bout remains to be seen.

For Slice’s part, he isn’t concerned about Shamrock’s ground ability.

“I question Ken’s ground game,” Slice said. “He’s going to try and find a way to make me uneasy, but that’s not going to happen. I’m never uptight. I’ve worked on punches, takedowns, takedown defense, chokes, armbars, you name it. Anything that Shamrock tries on me, I am prepared for.”

No matter who ends up taking home the money in this fight, this is surely one you want to tune in for.
