UFC 190: Rousey vs. Correia

The UFC heads to Brazil this weekend where TUF Brazil will crown its champions and Ronda Rousey will attempt to continue her reign of terror. The Noguiera boys make an appearance as well! It should be an interesting night in Rio as veterans try to remain relevant and prospects try to make a name for themselves.

So what can we expect from this full fight card? Let’s take a look.

Main Card (PPV, 10 PM ET)

Ronda Rousey (11-0): -1400 vs. Bethe Correia (9-0): +850

The most dominant athlete on the planet will try to make it 12 straight wins in a battle of undefeated fighters Saturday. Rousey’s success is no fluke and it is no secret – she has absolutely demolished all comers culminating in a 14-second stoppage last time out against Cat Zigano.

We could talk about the Tale of the Tape all we want in this fight but the result will be the same – nobody is touching Ronda Rousey right now – nobody. The only question is whether or not this fight gets beyond the first minute! The payday won’t be great but it’s a payday nonetheless – don’t be reckless here!

MMA Betting Pick: Ronda Rousey -1400

Maricio “Shogun” Rua (22-10): -210 vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (21-6): +180

Pride veterans take to the Octagon in what may be the best bout on the card – I can’t wait! Both men have something to prove – Rua is coming off consecutive knockout losses, while Nogueira is coming off a knockout loss to Anthony Johnson. Simply put neither man has anything to lose.

Both men will come in swinging – striking is their game. That said it is pretty hard to back the favorite Rua in this one largely due to his questionable chin. It’s true that L’il Nog was KO’d in his last fight but that came against Rumble Johnson – no shame in that.

My guess is that Rua’s chin is the determining factor once again this week and that Nogueira rides the rabid crowd to the TKO win. Rua’s days with the UFC are numbered for sure!

MMA Betting Pick: Antonio Rogerio Nogueira +180

Glaico Franca (13-3): -160 vs. Fernando Bruno (16-2): +140

The Lightweight Final for TUF Brazil features two very equally matched fighters that have certainly paid their MMA dues already. The TUF fights are always tough to call but Franca is my call due to the fact that he’s nine years younger and will have a rather large size and reach advantage in this fight.

Either man could win this bout but youth and size get the nod for me.

MMA Betting Pick: Glaico Franca -160

Reginaldo Vieira (13-3): +250 vs. Dileno Lopes (19-1): -300

The Bantamweight TUF Brazil Final seems a bit easier to call – Dileno Lopes has faced and beaten the tougher competition so far in his career and will have a small size advantage over his opponent. Vieira has looked good on the show but has yet to face anything like he is about to face with Lopes.

This fight has late submission written all over it!

MMA Betting Pick: Dileno Lopes -300

Stefan Struve (25-7): -160 vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (34-9-1, 1 NC): +140

An intriguing Heavyweight battle between Stefan Struve and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira has all the makings of a very good bout – each man will be a little desperate to win and to keep their job in the UFC – Nog may be fighting for the last time period as retirement talk is certainly prevalent.

Hopes are that the 7’0” Struve has improved his horrendous striking defense – nobody gets knocked out like Stefan! The good news is that Noguiera will have to lean on his grappling game to have a chance in this one – he is a pioneer of Brazilian jiu-jitsu and a legend in the sport.

That said I think Struve is wary of the grappling of his opponent and is able to keep Nog at a distance, outpointing him en route to a snoozer of a decision victory. Struve’s goal is to keep Noguiera on the outside – I think he accomplishes that goal Saturday in front of a rabid Noguiera crowd.

MMA Betting Pick: Stefan Struve -160

Antonio Silva (18-7, 1 NC): +147 vs. Soa Palelei (22-4): -172

Heavyweights do battle when Antonio Silva tries to snap a two fight losing streak against a very tough Soa Palelei. Simply put Silva hasn’t been the same since his ban from performance-enhancing drugs – any advantage he gained because of the drugs is all but gone. Palelei, although not a great fighter is certainly better than Silva at this point of his career.

The downward slide of a post-steroid Antonio Silva continues Saturday – it’s a shame!

MMA Betting Pick: Soa Palelei -172

Claudia Gadelha (12-1): -450 vs. Jessica Aguillar (19-4): +350

A pretty good fight in the Women’s Strawweight Division kicks off the pay-per-view when Claudia Gadelha and Jessica Aguillar throw down for a possible Title Shot. Aguillar rides a 10 fight win streak into the contest but must contend with arguably the most well-rounded fighter in the division.

This fight will likely go to the judge’s score card with the better striker outpointing the other. That distinction belongs to Gadelha who squeaks out a win and continues on her path towards UFC gold.

MMA Betting Pick: Claudia Gadelha -450

Preliminary Card (FS1, 8 PM ET)

Demian Maia (20-6): -160 vs. Neil Magny (15-3): +140
MMA Betting Pick: Neil Magny +140

Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante (12-5, 1 NC): +140 vs. Patrick Cummins (7-2): -160
MMA Betting Pick: Patrick Cummins -160

Warlley Alves (8-0): -225 vs. Nordine Taleb (11-2): +175
MMA Betting Pick: Nordine Taleb +175

Iuri Alcantara (32-6, 1 NC): -250 vs. Leandro Issa (13-4): +200
MMA Betting Pick: Iuri Alcantara -250

Preliminary Card (Fight Pass, 7 PM ET)

Vitor Miranda (11-4): +135 vs. Clint Hester (11-4): -155
MMA Betting Pick: Vitor Miranda +135

Hugo Viana (8-2): -275 vs. Guido Cannetti (6-2): +235
MMA Betting Pick: Hugo Viana -275
