Week 8 was the typically crazy with upsets and near upsets stealing all of the headlines. New Orleans finally looked human, New England had their first really bad game of the season and Tim Tebow looked every bit the rookie QB that he is!

There were a number of standout performances this week and there were some truly dreadful ones. Below is a breakdown of all of such performances is Dave B’s Week 8 Studs and Duds!

Studs of the Week:

LeSean McCoy – Philadelphia Eagles – What a performance on Sunday night! 30 carries, 185 yards and two touchdowns completely dominated the Cowboys defense.

Steven Jackson – St. Louis Rams – Jackson was instrumental in the most improbable upset of the weekend. He ran for 159 yards and two touchdowns while adding 32 yards receiving. Jackson is the heart and soul of the Rams and is this week’s Stud of the Week.

Other Studs:

QBs

Eli Manning – NY Giants – Manning has been playing lights out all season long – he rescued his team from upset at the hands of the Miami Dolphins. Manning passed for 349 yards and two scores while avoiding any mistakes at all – the sign of a true Stud!

Ben Roethlisberger – Big B didn`t allow the previous Pats dominance over the Steelers get in his way on Sunday -he threw for 365 yards, two touchdowns and one interception and was responsible for keeping New England`s offense off the field for the majority of the game – Stud!

Cam Newton – Carolina Panthers – Newton didn`t win his game on Sunday but it clearly wasn`t his fault. Newton threw for 290 yards and three touchdowns while adding another 53 yards on the ground.

Honourable mention: Matt Stafford, Michael Vick

RBs

Ray Rice – Baltimore Ravens – His rushing totals won`t blow you away but his scores will. Rice ran for 63 yards and three touchdowns on Sunday while adding seven catches for 36 yards. Three touchdowns automatically make you a Stud!

Adrian Peterson – Minnesota Vikings – AP has been sensational this season. Not only did le lead his team in rushing on Sunday but he also led them in receiving. 86 yards on the ground and 76 yards through the air makes AP a Week 8 Stud.

Frank Gore – San Francisco 49ers – another 134 yards and a touchdown keeps Gore in his regular position on the Stud list.

Fred Jackson – Buffalo Bills – Jackson can`t be slowed – period. On Sunday, he added 120 yards rushing to his season totals as well as another 74 yards receiving. He didn`t score but he became a combine yardage machine.

Honourable Mention: Reggie Bush, Arian Foster

WRs

Anquan Boldin – Baltimore Ravens – Boldin caught 7 passes for 145 yards in Week 8 – impressive! What`s not shown in the box score is the fact that Boldin drew three pass interference calls in the end zone – all of which led to touchdowns by Ray Rice. Only Studs have assists like that!

Calvin Johnson – Detroit Lions – No surprise here! Another 6 catches for 125 yards and a touchdown lands Johnson on the Stud list again.

Steve Smith – Carolina Panthers – Smith is the happiest man in the league now that Cam Newton is in town. Smith caught 7 passes for 100 yards and a score on Sunday – Stud! [ad-8469823]

Honourable Mention: Victor Cruz

Duds of the Week:

Dez Bryant and Miles Austin – Dallas Cowboys – Brutal – they showed up on the last drive to avoid a complete Fantasy meltdown. Still this duo, after 7 catches and 56 yards combined are utter Duds!

Ryan Torain – Washington Redskins – Torain got the start in Washington – many of you started him. How did he reward you? 14 yards rushing and 6 yards receiving. Ugly numbers for Dud of the Week.

Other Duds:

QBs

Tim Tebow – Denver Broncos – Tebow nearly wound up as Dud of the Week but after a decent second half he escaped the most dishonourable of honours. Tebow went 18 of 39 for 172 yards, one touchdown and one interception on the afternoon. Tebow added 63 yards on the ground but was responsible for a fumble that was taken back the other way for a touchdown. Tebow was awful for much of Sunday`s game and was a total Dud!

Drew Brees – New Orleans Saints – The Saints were up against the worst defense in the NFL on Sunday and THEY LOST! Brees passed for 269 yards, only one touchdown and two costly interceptions. Not horrible numbers but for Brees it was a total Dud!

John Beck – Washington Redskins – Beck was a waiver wire target this week because of the byes. Beck was started by many and only delivered 208 yards passing, ZERO touchdowns and two interceptions along with a fumble lost – Dud!

Dishonourable Mention: Tony Romo

RBs

Chris Johnson – Tennessee Titans – Is it almost time to give up on CJ2K? On Sunday he had 51 combined yards on 17 touches. Stop blaming the O-line Chris – you are the Dud!

Saints RBs – Pierre Thomas, Chris Ivory and Darren Sproles combined for 57 yards rushing against the worst defense in the league. All three are worthy of the Dud List!

Patriots RBs – Another group? You bet! Kevin Faulk and Benjarvus Green-Ellis combined for 43 yards rushing on Sunday in their most pivotal game of the season!

WRs

Wes Welker – New England Patriots – Ugh! I guess Welker was due for a stinker. He caught a respectable six balls for an unflattering 39 yards – far, far from the projected numbers he had for this week.

Jimmy Graham – New Orleans Saints – ditto for Graham. He caught only four balls for 39 yards on Sunday in a Dud effort.

Vernon Davis – San Francisco 49ers – 3 catches for 27 yards is more proof that Davis is quickly slipping off the Fantasy radar. He has been a Dud far too much this season don’t you think?
