WEEK 7 STUDS AND DUDS

Week 7 of the NFL was one in which the expectations were high. Some delivered, and some fell flat on their faces.  This Week Studs and Duds has it fair share of return customers, but also has some “unusual suspects”.   So here we go with my Week 7 Studs and Duds.

Stud of the Week

Carson Palmer – Cincinnati – Absolutely had his way with what I thought was a pretty good Chicago Defense.  20/24 for 233 yards and 5 – count em – 5 TD’s.!  Palmer was smart, efficient poised and Studly in a statement game.  The Bengals are for real folks and if they keep getting performances like the ones we saw in Week 7, they could be a scary team going forward.

Dud of the Week

Matt Forte – Chicago – Although the Stud of the Week (Palmer) and Cinci’s Offense took the Bears out of their game plan early, hopes were that Forte would figure heavily into the passing game.  Forte hasn’t been doing anything out of the backfield all year and his only saving grace is that he is a good receiver.  Well, in Week 7, Matt managed only 24 yards rushing and 25 yards receiving on 4 catches.  Forte is quickly becoming the Dud of the Year.

Other Studs

Peyton Manning – Indianapolis – Another 3 TD’s. Today – ho hum!!!!!

Tom Brady – New England – Only 300 yard passer in the morning games, Brady was able to show the British public what has made him a Stud on this side of the Atlantic.  308 yards and 3 TD’s. Seems ordinary for Tom, but is extra-ordinary for 95% of the other QBs in the league. Must be nice to be a Stud on 2 continents.

Aaron Rogers – Green Bay – The numbers aren’t typically Studworthy, but the 3 TD’s. and the efficiency that he demonstrated is.  15/20 for 246 yards and 3 TD’s. Is truly outstanding making Aaron worthy of his spot on the Stud list.

Tony Romo – Dallas – 311 yards and 3 TD’s. in a big game for Romo was made more impressive with the ineffectiveness of the running game.  The Cowboys dominated all aspects of the game in Week 7 and Romo was in complete control.

Jets RBs – Shonne Greene and Thomas Jones combined for 265 yards and 3 TD’s. in Week 7, making both Studs.  Obviously the Jets Offensive line deserves some credit too!   We’ll give a shout out to the O-line and acknowledge their Studliness as well.

Ryan Grant – Green Bay – Finally!!!  It was questionable whether or not we’d see Grant on the Stud list at all this year, but a Week 7 effort of 27 rushes for 148 yards and a TD shows that he is capable of being an occasional Stud.

Steven Jackson – St. Louis – Poor Steven!!  A great player on a terrible team.   Jackson managed 134 yards rushing in Week 7 – almost ½ of the total offense for his entire team.  He’s a man amongst boys right now and the fact that he puts on his helmet and comes out every week – doesn’t complain, makes him a Stud.

Miles Austin – Dallas – The dude’s no fluke  171 yards and 2 TD’s marked his 2nd Stud List appearance in as many games.  Look folks, Roy Williams is not The Man in Dallas – Austin is!!  If you have him on your Fantasy team – Congratulations

Chad Ochocinco – Cincinnati – Ocho is going to be in the Pro Bowl again this year thanks to such Stud performances as we saw in Week 7.  10 Catches, 118 yards and 2 TD’s.  – nuff said!!

Wes Welker  – New England – Is there a more blue collar Stud in the NFL right now?  Welker has shown over the years that he will do whatever it takes in order to make a catch and gain and extra yard or 2.  10 more grabs for 107 yards and 1td. in Week 7 for one of my favorite players in the game.

Vincent Jackson – San Diego – Huge game for Vjax against a pretty poor Defense.  142 yards and a td. was mostly accomplished in the 1st half of his game, but it’s still worthy of  Stud consideration.

Vernon Davis – San Francisco – 3 TD’s. in Week7 – 3!!  Alex Smith came in for an ineffective Shawn Hill and hit Vernon all day long.  Davis single – handedly made this a close game.  For taking his team on his back and giving them something to build on – he’s a Stud!

Owen Daniels – Houston – This dude is no longer under the Fantasy radar – he’s a legitimate #1 TE.  Daniels is as hot as they come in the league and he doesn’t figure to slow down anytime soon.  7 catches 123 yards and a td.  – WE’RE NOT WORTHY, WE’RE NOT WORTHY!

Other Duds

Derek Anderson – Cleveland – Is Brady Quinn that bad?  Worse than “Captain of the All Dud Team” Derek Anderson?  Anderson has failed to reach 100yards passing in 2 of his last 3 games – his Week 7 effort of 99 yards and 1 int. included.

JaMarcus Russell – Oakland – too easy.

Marc Bulger – St. Louis – I just don’t understand why that a team that is trailing 14-3 after the 1st quarter cannot and does not put up some better passing #’s.  It’s as though Bulger has given up on this season and is resigned to the fact that he will be on the Dud list for the remainder of the year.

Frank Gore – San Francisco – Was everybody fired up to see what Gore was going to do to the beatable Houston Defense?  Me too!  Well, 47 combined yards on 15 touches was all that he could muster.  Gore returned with a Thud, and therefore he became a Dud!

Tashard Choice – Dallas – 1 catch was all that Choice recorded in a week that Dallas put up 37 points.  Felix Jones returned and had 10 touches.  Once a Waiver Wire darling, Tashard has become a Dud.

Pierre Thomas – New Orleans – Thomas is back at 100% health and looking poised to return to his starter status in the potent Saints Offense.  He didn’t look very good.  Thomas should have done WAY better.  Week 7’s 30 yards rushing proves that he belongs in the Dud column.

Ahmad Bradshaw – NY Giants – Fans were ready to give the starting RB role to Bradshaw and how does he reward them – 27 total yards!  Not very good at all.

Hines Ward – Pittsburgh – Wow – didn’t see this one coming!  1 catch for 3 yards?  Gotta be kidding me.  We’ll give him a mulligan, but still have to acknowledge that Ward was a Week 7 Dud.

Roy Williams – Dallas – Came into the season as the Cowboy’s #1 receiver and has quickly fallen off the map.  Healthy again, Williams entered Week 7 with a lot to prove.  To be Romo’s go to guy means good things – look at Miles Austin!  Williams is obviously not that guy and for that reason he’s a Dud.

Braylon Edwards – NY Jets – Jerricho Cotchery is out and the Jets are up against the terrible Raiders.  Edwards is in line for a huge game – right?  Wrong – 1 catch for 14 yards – Dud!

Terrell Owens – Buffalo – I admit – it is fun to be able to mention TO in the Dud column every week.  But when a dude with huge talent and a huge mouth can’t deliver more than 3 catches and 27 yards, he is a Dud.

Zach Miller – Oakland – A lot of people are buying into the Zach Miller hype – hell, he had over 100 yards last week.  This week – 15 lousy yards receiving – brutal!

One reply on “Week 7 NFL Fantasy Football Studs + Duds”

Tony Romo has definitely been helped by the emergence of Miles Austin as a big time target.. It will be interesting to see how he does once defensive coordinators start to scheme against him.
