Week 4 is almost in the books and unfortunately, it was easier to come up with Duds than it was Studs. Still, there were some outstanding efforts in the NFL this weekend and Dave B honours them with his Studs and Duds list.

Enjoy, and a special shout out to Josh Scobee for his 59 yard field goal with no time left to defeat the Indianapolis Colts.

Studs of the Week:

Terrell Owens – Cincinnati Bengals – Owens absolutely ripped it up this week with 10 catches, 222 yards and a touchdown. To be honest, I didn’t think that we’d see TO here ever again – Bravo Terrell! Now go do some sit-ups in your driveway!

LaDainian Tomlinson – NY Jets – Another aging star that looks reborn! Tomlinson had 155 combined yards and two touchdowns in the Jets romp over Buffalo. He was quick, decisive and he made the most of every one of his 22 touches!

Other Studs:

QBs

Carson Palmer – Cincinnati Bengals – Where did this performance come from? Most, including me wrote him off. But with 371 yards passing and two touchdowns, Palmer proved that he is indeed alive and can occasionally put up a Stud performance.

Kyle Orton – Denver Broncos – Another 300+ yard passing game has Orton on the Stud list again! He has guided his team all season and has kept the Broncos in every game despite the utter lack of a running game.

Peyton Manning – Indianapolis Colts – Manning threw his first interception of the season against Jacksonville, but the fantasy Football world will certainly take the 352 yards passing and two touchdowns.

RBs

Arian Foster – Houston Texans – Foster had 187 combined yards and two touchdowns – AND HE WAS BENCHED FOR THE ENTIRE FIRST QUARTER ! He is a force and is still the NFL rushing leader – Stud!

Maurice Jones-Drew – Jacksonville Jaguars – MJD had a bad hammy and was questionable going into Sunday’s game. 105 yards rushing and a touchdown with 16 yards receiving and a touchdown prove that you can’t keep a good man from being a Stud!

Rashard Mendenhall – Pittsburgh Steelers – He is about all that the Steelers have had on offense through the first three weeks of the season. 79 yards and two more touchdowns keep Mendenhall on the Stud list.

Honourable Mention: Ahmad Bradshaw – New York Giants

WRs

Reggie Wayne – Indianapolis Colts – What can’t this guy do? On Sunday, Wayne hauled in 15 passes for 196 yards. He’s a beauty and worthy of the Stud list!

Calvin Johnson – Detroit Lions – Megatron had six catches, 86 yards and two touchdowns against one of the top defences in the NFL! Stud!

Antonio Gates – San Diego Chargers – Gates has been insane all season and in Week 4 he had seven catches, 144 yards and two touchdowns.

Honourable Mention: Zach Miller – Oakland Raiders

Duds of the Week:

Chris Johnson – Tennessee Titans – 64 combined yards would be decent numbers for some but for CJ2, it is totally unacceptable, especially against a very soft Denver defense.

Santana Moss – Washington Redskins – Was he even on the field in Week 4? Zero catches for a guy that most has ranked in the Top 20 this week – Dud!

Other Duds:

QBs

Alex Smith – San Francisco 49ers – Smith had to be looking forward to facing the very beatable Falcons secondary this week. 188 yards passing, one touchdown and two interceptions is further proof that the Niners are in for a long season.

Matt Hasselbeck – Seattle Seahawks – Hasselbeck led his team to three points this week against one of the worst defences in the league. 191 yards and an interception against St. Louis is a Dud performance.

Donovan McNabb – Washington Redskins – McNabb got the win but it wasn’t his stellar play that did it. Just 125 yards passing, on touchdown and an interception has McNabb rightfully on the Dud list.

Honourable Mention: Derek Anderson – Arizona Cardinals, Eli Manning – New York Giants

RBs

Broncos RBs – WOW!! This is not a misprint! The duo of Laurence Maroney and Correll Buckhalter rushed the ball 17 times for eight combined yards!

Cedric Benson – Cincinnati Bengals – Cedric Benson was poised to be huge on Sunday against the woeful Cleveland Browns. 60 yards on 15 carries is a total Dud!

Packers RBs – Another committee that had the benefit of facing a soft defense that didn’t deliver! 18 carries for 72 yards has Packers fans longing for Ryan Grant.

Honourable mention: Michael Turner – Atlanta Falcons, Bills RBs, Matt Forte – Chicago Bears

WRs

Steve Smith – Carolina Panthers – An ankle injury took him out of the game early. Still, two catches on the day and it appears as though Jimmy Claussen isn’t even looking his way.

Hines Ward – Pittsburgh Steelers – It’s a good thing that Big Ben’s suspension is officially over. Two catches for 13 yards = Dud!!

Marques Colston – New Orleans Saints – Colston is the most talented receiver on the Saints and yet he is looking like the third option. Four catches for 36 yards is not good for a 2nd or 3rd round Fantasy draft choice!

Honorable Mention: DeSean Jackson – Philadelphia Eagles, Steve Smith – New York Giants
