You know it was an explosive week of NFL Football when narrowing down the Studs of the Week is extremely difficult. Week 3 belonged to the receivers although there was an obnoxious amount of 300+ yard passers as well.

Here is Dave B’s Week 3 version of Studs and Duds – enjoy!

Studs of the Week:

Darren McFadden – Oakland Raiders – McFadden is quickly becoming an early candidate for MVP of the league. Against a very tough Jets defense, McFadden ripped off 171 yards and two scores on 19 carries.

Torrey Smith – Baltimore Ravens – Smith came out of nowhere and lit up the St Louis Rams. Smith had five catches, 152 yards and three touchdowns on Sunday and becomes a deserving Stud of the Week.

Other Studs:

QBs

Joe Flacco – Baltimore Ravens – Flacco did most of his damage in the first quarter of Sunday’s game but ended the contest with 389 yards passing and three touchdowns. After a down week, Flacco rose up and became a Stud again.

Eli Manning – New York Giants – didn’t see this one coming! Manning had his best game of the season against one of the scariest defences in the land. Manning was in total control throwing for 254 yards and four touchdowns against Philadelphia.

Matt Schaub – Houston Texans – Schaub did all he could against the New Orleans Saints but it wasn’t quite enough. 379 yards passing, three touchdowns and one interception still have Schaub on the Stud list!

Honourable Mention: Matt Hasselbeck – Tennessee Titans, Drew Brees – New Orleans Saints, Aaron Rodgers – Green Bay Packers

RBs

Fred Jackson – Buffalo Bills – Jackson has been a machine so far this season and on Sunday he posted 161 combined yards and a touchdown in an upset of the New England Patriots – Stud!

LeSean McCoy – Philadelphia Eagles – McCoy had a strong game rushing on Sunday. 128 yards and a touchdown on the ground combined with another 13 yards receiving has McCoy looking like a Stud.

Ahmad Bradshaw – New York Giants – The Giants running backs had to show up at some point this season and on Sunday they did. Bradshaw had 139 combined yards and a touchdown against their hated rivals the Eagles.

Honourable Mention: Maurice Jones-Drew – Jacksonville Jaguars, Ryan Matthews – San Diego Chargers

WRs

Wes Welker – New England Patriots – What a game for Welker in Week 3! He had 16 grabs – 16! For 216 yards and two touchdowns while just barely missing Stud of the Week honours.

Jermichael Finley – Green Bay Packers – How does 7 catches, 85 yards and three touchdowns sound for your Fantasy squad? Positively studly!

Calvin Johnson – Detroit Lions – Johnson had a slow first half on Sunday but in true Stud fashion finished with 7 catches, 108 yards and two touchdowns.

Honourable Mention: Victor Cruz – New York Giants, Vernon Davis – San Francisco 49ers, Brandon Pettigrew – Detroit Lions, Jimmy Graham – New Orleans Saints, Lance Moore – New Orleans Saints, Andre Johnson and James Casey – Houston Texans, Rob Gronkowski – New England Patriots, Greg Jennings, Green Bay Packers [ad-8469823]

Duds of the Week:

Kenny Britt – Tennessee Titans – In a game in which Matt Hasselbeck threw for 300 yards, Britt managed just 3 catches for 18 yards. After two sizzling weeks, Britt delivered a total Dud!

Steve Smith – Carolina Panthers – Smith may have been a victim of his early season success like Britt. After lighting up Weeks 1 and 2, Smith fell back to earth with a 2 catch 15 yard performance.

Other Duds:

QBs

Cam Newton – Carolina Panthers – Newton had his easiest matchup of his young career against the Jags and only managed 158 yards passing and one touchdown. It may be unfair but there is no denying that Newton’s Sunday performance was a Dud.

Philip Rivers – San Diego Chargers – Rivers should have had his best game of the year against the lowly Chiefs but could only muster 266 yards, ZERO touchdowns and two interceptions.

Sam Bradford – St. Louis Rams – The Rams were playing from behind all game long and all Bradford could muster is 166 yards passing, one late touchdown and an interception. I know the team is banged up but the performance was still Dudworthy.

Honourable Mention: Alex Smith – Sam Francisco 49ers

RBs

Chris Johnson – Tennessee Titans – What the hell is going on with Johnson? He has been totally ineffective this season and if not for 54 receiving yards he would have been Dud of the Week. Johnson had 21 yards rushing on 13 carries – total Dud!

DeAngelo Williams – Carolina Panthers – I hope he is enjoying his big fat contract because the Panthers certainly aren’t. Williams had 12 touches on Sunday and managed to generate just 25 yards combined!

Cedric Benson – Cincinnati Bengals – It may have been Benson’s last game for a month or so and he delivered a Dud! Benson carried 17 times for 64 yards in a game that he should have dominated.

WRs

Santonio Holmes – New York Jets – 1 catch for 19 yards was all that Holmes could muster on Sunday – a Dud performance if I have ever seen one!

DeSean Jackson – Philadelphia Eagles – Remember the last time the Eagles played the Giants? Jackson was a total Stud. On Sunday Jackson was held to just 2 catches and 30 yards.

Hakeem Nicks – New York Giants – With all of the injuries in the Giants receiving corp. you’d figure that Nicks would stand to benefit – WRONG! 3 catches for 25 yards has Nicks firmly on the Dud list!
