Week 2 NFL Fantasy Football Studs + Duds

A quick look back at week 2 fantasy football STUDS and Duds…

NFL WEEK 2 STUDS AND DUDS

Each week, the CappersPicks.com staff brings you players you need to be paying attention to: Remember – fantasy football championships are often won by those who live eat and breath fantasy football.

After all of the weekly games are finished be sure to check our waiver wire column, cheatsheets, a who’s hot, and who’s not report plus more in our fantasy football guide. Without wasting any more of your time, here are the Week 2 Fantasy Football Studs & Duds plus key player stats for the NFL games that went on on this week (Week 2).

It was very another very interesting Week in the NFL. A few upsets and lots of great performances for WR’s and TE’s again. Play the right pass catchers from week to week and you will win – simple!!!!! Lots of dreadful efforts too. Apologies to Owen Daniels, Marion Barber, Vincent Jackson, Eli Manning and “Lambeau Leapin” Ocho for not making it on the list this week – you are still Studs.

Here we go!!!

Stud Of the Week

Chris Johnson – Tennessee – One word – WOW!!! Would have hated to see the score if Chris didn’t show up on Sunday. All he did was gain 197 yards on 16 carries with 2 tds and catch 9 balls for 87 yards and 1 td. 284 combined yards is insane. Its safe to say that Chris will be a factor as long as the Titans are in the game. Too bad that it didn’t translate into a win!!

Dud of the Week

It was tempting to name the NFL equipment managers as the duds. Did they forget to outfit their guys with cleats? Dudes seemed to be slipping all over the field on Week 2 and therefore not making plays that they should have. Outside of that, there was someone who was even worse!

Greg Jennings – Green Bay – A goose-egg? You kidding me? Lemme check the Box Score – yup its true. Lets be honest here – Greg was a victim of an underwhelming QB and questionable play calling by the O coordinator. Ryan Grant was brutal, yet Aaron Rogers kept calling his number. Ugly ugly game for the Pack – lets hope that history doesn’t repeat itself.

More Studs

Matt Schaub – Houston – 25/39 357 yards, 4 tds. – Matt woke up this week and realized that he had to get the ball into Andre’s hands. As long as he remembers who his meal ticket is, he’ll be fine. Last week’s sub-par effort came against a Defense that made Aaron Rogers look ordinary this week. Maybe last week wasn’t all his fault after all.
Philip Rivers – San Diego – 25/45 436 yards, 2tds. – 436 yards against the Ravens? Unreal!!! Sproles and Vincent Jackson were lovin Phil – we’ll have to see if it continues.

Drew Brees – New Orleans – 25/34 311 yards, 3 tds. – Lets face it folks, Drew will be here every week. Gonna be fun if you are a Brees owner. Pure Stud indeed. Poise, confidence, a good O-line, a coordinator that will let him do whatever the hell he wants, and extreme weapons should propel Brees toward the record books this year.

Cedric Benson – Cincinnati – 29 carries, 141 yards – Great effort by “The Afterthought” Week 2 performance that reminded us why he was so hyped coming out of college. Benson was able to take over the game and keep the Packers off the field. Whenever he needed 8 yards, he got it – the sign of a true Stud.

Willis McGahee – Baltimore – Lowered expectations seem to be doing Willis some good. The pressure seems to be off, and McGahee is running with purpose. With a good pass attack, teams are no longer able to key on the run, thus giving the three – headed rushing attack more room to do their thing. The Ravens are a Strong team on both sides of the ball and are gonna be scary in January and Willis figures to be a big part of that

Mario Manningham -NY Giants – 10 grabs 150 yards and a td. Who is this guy? Guaranteed the #1 Waiver Wire Pickup next week – -probably grab him myself!!! Oh ya, Steve Smith wasn’t bad either

Andre Johnson – Houston – 10 catches, 149 yards and 2 tds. Remember last week? I don’t!!! Stellar performance and as long as Schaub looks his way, he’s a Stud.

Steve Smith – Carolina – 8 catches, 131 yards – Similar story to AJ. As long as the QB looks his way, there is no reason that he shouldn’t be on this list every week.

Marcus Colston – New Orleans – 8 catches, 98 yards and 2 tds. Stud QB to a Stud WR = a Stud performance in Week 2.

Brent Celek – 8 catches, 104 yards – Clearly the #1 option for Kolb – says a lot about Brent. Trustworthy and sure-handed makes Celek a Stud.

More Duds

Jamarcus Russell – Oakland – Unsuprising Dud (Nice Title!!!!). Russell was completely out of sync and made the Raider Nation long for Jeff Garcia. 7 completions for 109 yards aint gonna get it done. Once a Dud, always a Dud!

Mark Bulger – St. Louis – So much for the optimism and the rebuilt Offensive Line in Rams Land. Bulger managed only 125 yards passing in a tight game that they could have won. The slippery slope downward continue for Mark – poor guy!!

Tom Brady – New England – What? Sexy Tom a Dud? Thats right folks – he is a Week 2 Dud. 216 yards NO tds and 1 interception in Week 2. Sub-par for an all-world Stud. If teams can learn from what Rex Ryan’s Defense did to the Patriots, Tom has potential to disappoint – then again………….

Steve Slaton – Houston – Seems to be a 1 year wonder doesn’t he? Steve managed only 59 combined yards this week and was replaced later in the game by Chris Brown. He doesn’t seen to have the confidence in his coaches – should he have the confidence in the Fantasy Football Universe?

Clinton Portis – Washington – Managed 79 yards which is not too bad, but the fact that it was against a TERRIBLE Rams team makes Portis a Dud. Wxpectations for this week were huge and Portis didnt come close to living up to them.

Patriots RBBC – The Belichek system seems to be biting him in the ass a bit right now. No Rb can get in sync. For God sake Bill, pick a back and stick with him for more than one series in a row. Brady should not have to throw 47 times – BALANCE WINS GAMES!!!!

Larry Fitzgerald – Arizona – Managed a Td., but only had 4 grabs for 34 yards. Dud performance for the consensus #1 preseason WR. Fantasy teams are counting on a whole lot more production than that – hell – WE DESERVE IT!!!!!

Eddie Royal – Denver – Seems to be the player most affected by the regime change in Denver. 3 catches and 20 yards is proof that the big play that was there last year isn’t so far this year. Seems lost in the system in Denver right now.

Zach Miller – Oakland – Bubkis for a dude who looked so promising last week. Thanks Jamarcus!!!

Titans DST – 0-2. Who would have thought it?
