Week 14 of the NFL – who was going to show up in the Fantasy playoffs?  There were some monster individual performances this week and unfortunately, there were some turds.  I, unfortunately started 2 Duds this week in my Fantasy pool and will therefore taste Fantasy defeat.  Apologies to Eli Manning, Donovan McNabb, Thomas Jones, Darren McFadden, Vincent Jackson, and Haseem Nicks for not making the list – your efforts didn’t go unnoticed.

Here then, is Dave B’s Week 14 edition of Studs and Duds.

Stud of the Week

Brandon Marshall – Denver – Insane numbers for Marshall in Week 14!  21 catches – that’s right – 21 for 200 yards and 2 touchdowns in a losing effort against Indianapolis.  It’s one for the record books folks, and certainly worthy of Stud of the Week honors.

Dud of the Week

Aaron Rodgers – Green Bay – Those of you hoping for a BIG game this week from the #2 Fantasy points producer are probably drowning their sorrows right now.  16/24 passing for 180 yards and NO touchdowns represents Rodgers worst Fantasy week of the year – a terrible time for it to happen for those wishing to advance in their Fantasy playoffs.  I didn’t think that we’d see Rodgers in the Dud column, but here he is – Dud of the Week.

Other Studs

Drew Brees – New Orleans – He just keeps on plugging away.  Another 3 touchdowns on 296 yards passing has his team smelling a perfect season.  Brees is money in the bank, and for that reason is a Week 14 Stud.

Matt Schaub – Houston – Matt had over 300 yards passing in the 1st half of his game against the hopeless Seahawks.  He ended up with 365 yards and 2 tds. as he wasn’t called upon too much in the 2nd half.  All of this with a separated shoulder (non-throwing shoulder).  To deliver with such a painful injury can only mean 1 thing – Schaub is a Stud.

Chris Johnson – Tennessee – It was pretty hard to not call this guy Stud of the Week but I thought I’d give someone else a chance. 117 yards rushing with 2 tds. and 3 catches for 69 yards with a td. is crazy!!!!  He’s the biggest Stud in the league right now – hands down!

Ray Rice – Baltimore – Unstoppable in Week 13, Rice had 219 combined yards and a touchdown on his way to serious consideration for Stud of the Week.

Ryan Grant – Green Bay – The real Ryan Grant showed up this week and was the only Packer that lived up to expectation.  Grant rumbled for 137 yards on only 20 carries and added 2 touchdowns along the way.  He was the reason the Packers won this week, and stole the Stud mojo from Aaron Rodgers.

Jamaal Charles – Kansas City – Charles has given the Chiefs something to be excited about for next year.  He has carried that team since the departure of Larry Johnson.  171 combined yards and a touchdown made Charles look like a man amongst boys in the Kansas City Offense.  He rushed the ball with excellence and he also caught the ball with great efficiency – Stud!!

Adrian Peterson – Minnesota – AP seemed unspectacular, but his numbers certainly don’t lie.  137 combined yards and 2 touchdowns gives Peterson new life after a disappointing outing last week.

Andre Johnson – Houston – What a beast  Johnson did whatever he wanted in Week 14, and the Seattle Defense couldn’t do a thing about it.   11 catches, 193 yards and 2 touchdowns (most of which in the 1st half) proves that Johnson is among the best 2 or 3 Wide Receivers in the NFL.

DeSean Jackson – Philadelphia – Stud – that’s all I gotta say!!

Wes Welker – New England – Ho hum!!  Only another 10 catch game for 105 yards in Week 14 for Welker.  He started off slowly, but proved that you can’t keep a Stud down for too long.

Fred Davis – Washington – Tight End with 2 touchdowns  – Stud performance.

Other Duds

Ben Roethlisberger – Pittsburgh – Ugh!  201 yards passing and NO tds. against a terrible Cleveland team lands Big Ben on the Dud list.  To be fair, the whole Steelers team could be on this list.  The passing game was predictable, the running game was poor, and the Offensive Line had as bad a performance as I’ve seen in a long time.  Make no mistake about it folks, Roethlisberger was a Week 14 Dud.

Carson Palmer – Cincinnati – Thank God for Cedric Benson huh?  The once prolific passer, Palmer  has turned into a mere game manager before our very eyes.  Palmer passed for only 94 yards (1 td. though) against Minnesota.  Brutal!

David Gerrard  -Jacksonville – 11/26 passing for 139 yards in what should have been a statement game for the Jags is simply not good enough.  Jacksonville had a chance to cement their Wildcard standing with a win against a very beatable Miami secondary.  Instead, Gerrard laid an egg.

Rashard Mendenhall – Pittsburgh – Pittsburgh PA might be renamed Dudsville after Thursday night’s performance by their beloved Steelers.  53 yards rushing against the worst rushing Defense in the NFL spelled the end of the Steeler’s playoff hopes – too bad!!!!!

Tampa Bay RBS – I just don’t know what to say about this one.  It seems that the Bucs Backs are on the Duds list every week.  It seems that with so much talent, there’s not much excuse for it.

Jerricho Cotchery – NY Jets – Kellen Clemens started at Quarterback for the Jets, so a huge game was not expected, but 1 catch for 26 yards is still very ungood.

Randy Moss – New England – Oh boy!  Didn’t see this one coming.  The Patriots seem to be a team in decline right now.  Although they won their Week 14 game, Moss’s 1 catch, 16 yards effort proves that the team just isn’t the one that was expected to challenge for a title this year.

Donald Driver – Green Bay – 2 catches, 11 yards – that’s it!  Driver is runner up for Dud of the Week – 2nd only to his teammate that should have gotten him the ball.

Mike Sims-Walker – Jacksonville – Sims-Walker was on the injury report all week, but gave his owners life when he was declared active for the Week 14 game.  How did he repay his loyal Fantasy owners – 1 catch for 6 yards.  Thanks Mike.
