Week 8 is almost here and with six teams on byes, it is crucial to scour the matchups to determine who might best help your Fantasy squad. There are injuries, underachievers and difficult matchups to consider before locking in your Fantasy rosters.

Here is Dave B’s Week 8 edition of the Start and Sit – Fantasy Matchups. Enjoy and be sure to leave a comment!

Miami at Cincinnati 1:00 PM

The Miami running backs look like they are cancelling each other out right now making each a very risky start. If you can avoid them, do so. The only automatic Dolphin is Brandon Marshall although Davone Bess may serve as a decent flex in PPR leagues and Chad Henne may be an OK bye week fill in. For Cincinnati, Carson Palmer was enormous last week and deserves a start based on that. Don’t be afraid of Chad Ochocinco or Terrell Owens this week. I don’t really trust Cedric Benson this week but if you subscribe to the “never bench your studs” philosophy, you may want to start him as well.

Jacksonville at Dallas 1:00 PM

Maurice Jones-Drew is an every week play despite his recent struggles. Marcedes Lewis is the only other Jag that I would even consider at this point. For Dallas, I am not as scared of John Kitna as everyone else – he is playing the Jaguars after all. Kitna, Miles Austin, Jason Whitten and Dez Bryant are all fine starts this week – trust me! Felix Jones may finally get off the schnide too!

Washington at Detroit 1:00 PM

This game features two of the worst defenses in the NFL making all of the Studs good plays. Matt Stafford is back and could contribute but temper your expectations a bit in his first game back. Calvin Johnson is unbenchable and Jahvid Best should be healthy enough to have a good game. Brandon Pettigrew is a TE1 right now and warrants a start as well. For Washington, McNabb has slipped a bit but with 6 teams on byes, he should be in your lineup along with Ryan Torain, Santana Moss and Chris Cooley.

Buffalo at Kansas City 1:00 PM

How bout dem Bills? Ryan Fitzpatrick has 11 TDs in the four games he’s played and could be an OK start – I can’t believe that I just said that! That said, Lee Evans and Steve Johnson are not bad plays either. I still don’t trust the Bills running game but if you are absolutely stuck, Fred Jackson is the player to target. KC has two running backs that should be started against the Bills porous defense. Charles and Jones are automatic right now along with Dwayne Bowe and Tony Moeaki. I would wait on Matt Cassel however.

Carolina at St. Louis 1:00 PM

The Carolina running game is nicked up and in shambles. DeAngelo Williams isn’t an automatic start anymore – if there is one Panthers RB to start, it might be Jonathan Stewart. With Matt Moore back at QB, Steve Smith is a decent start this week. But Matt Moore should remain on the Fantasy bench. The Rams also have a dinged up running back – Steven Jackson if he can play is an automatic start. Sam Bradford is an OK QB2 but best to steer clear if you can. The Rams defense has been good this season and deserves consideration against the offensively challenged Panthers.

Green Bay at NY Jets 1:00 PM

Forget about the Packers running backs in this game – nobody runs on the Jets. Aaron Rodgers is automatic but be wary of the Packers receivers – Darrelle Revis is fit and ready to go and Antonio Cromartie has been superb all season. Greg Jennings is just an OK start this week. LaDainian Tomlinson is the only absolute lock for the Jets – Mark Sanchez should have another ho-hum game and the three receivers (Holmes Edwards and Cotchery) will once again battle each other for catches. Dustin Keller is a Top 10 Tight End play as well. Start the Jets defense as always!

Denver at San Francisco 1:00 PM

The Broncos had a bad game last week but look for a bounce back in front of an English crowd. Kyle Orton and Brandon Lloyd are both great starts with Jabar Gaffney being a decent flex. Knowshon Moreno is banged up and if he plays will be just OK. Bench Eddie Royal – he’s been brutal as of late. For San Francisco, the loss of Alex Smith really hurts. Frank Gore and Vernon Davis are still every week plays but that’s about it on the 49ers side of the ball.

Tennessee at San Diego 4:05 PM

Chris Johnson is automatic for Tennessee and based on last week’s performance, Kenny Britt should be in your lineups. Tennessee’s defense has been generating sacks and turnovers and warrants a start as well. For San Diego, never bench Philip Rivers or Antonio Gates. They will be just fine. Patrick Crayton is the only healthy receiver and should produce some quality numbers as well. The running game for the Chargers is a bit of a gamble. Mike Tolbert and Ryan Matthews wouldn’t be started on my team but if you have to start them, expect less than stellar numbers.

Seattle at Oakland 4:15 PM

The Oakland run defense has been typically brutal so far this season – this is the week that Marshawn Lynch will make his presence felt. Mike Williams has been on fire for Seattle and based on the number of targets and catches that he gets, he is worth considering as well. John Carlson is a fringe starter at best for Seattle right now. For Oakland, Darren McFadden had the best fantasy day that I can remember last week (4 touchdowns) and may emerge as the fantasy steal of 2010. Start him for sure as well as the only real threat in the Raiders passing game – Zach Miller.

Minnesota at New England 4:15 PM

It’s not certain who will start at quarterback for the Vikings. Either way, I am starting Randy Moss, Percy Harvin Visanthe Shiancoe and of course Adrian Peterson. They are all studs at their position and should perform regardless who is calling the plays. For the Patriots, Tom Brady is automatic, as is Wes Welker and now Aaron Hernandez. Deion Branch is a sneaky flex play as well this week against a Vikings team that was exposed last week.

Tampa Bay at Arizona 4:15 PM

Not a whole lot to like in this game! Mike Williams for Tampa is about the only bright spot for the Buccaneers and could be started in a pinch. Others to consider, but only consider are LeGarrette Blount and Josh Freeman. For the Cardinals, there is not much to like either – Max Hall is killing this team. I would even be wary of Larry Fitzgerald in this game! Beanie Wells will likely get 15-20 touches so he may be worth a look.

Pittsburgh at New Orleans 8:20 PM

It’s all systems go for the Steelers! Start Big Ben, Mendenhall, Hines Ward, Heath Miller, Mike Wallace and the Steelers defense with confidence. For New Orleans, Drew Brees and Marques Colston are the only absolutes this week – the Pittsburgh defense is too strong. Stay away from the Saints running game especially.

Houston at Indianapolis 8:30 PM

Indy is terrible against the run, making Arian Foster a Top 5 play this week. Matt Schaub and a healthy Andre Johnson are also good plays in what is sure to be a shootout. For Indianapolis, no surprises – start Manning and Wayne for sure. With the injuries to Dallas Clark and Austin Collie, Pierre Garcon becomes extremely attractive. The Colts running game came alive last week but Joseph Addai was injured. Mike Hart looks like the man left standing in the Colts backfield and may be worth a small look!

Byes: Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, NY Giants, Philadelphia, Baltimore

Good Luck and may the Fantasy Gods be with you!

I need help I have Fitz, jennings, bowe, Mike Williams(tb), and britt. I also have knox and crabtree but knox has a bye and crabtree is not a good play. I need u to pick 2 wrs to start. Im thinking Bowe and Britt but I like jennings too. So i need a second opinion.
Also who are some good targets to try and trade for fitz?
My rbs are tomlinson, torain, s-jax and brown. Im willing to trade brown and other people in the trade. I want to get a good receiver

Hey, 3 backs…Torain, Best, Foster(obviously), Frank Gore. I’m starting Gore and Foster, But need a Flex.

Also different league. Is Mike Hart worth starting over Best?

See that S. Jackson and Vernon Davis are Q as of this afternoon. Thinking of dropping Ben Jarvis Green and picking up Heath Miller or Steve Johnson to put in the W/T spot in place of Davis should he not start.

Also not crazy about starting Holmes and Colston but have no choice as have a bunch of players, mostly rb’s on byes this week and had wanted to dump BJG for Johnson or M Williams ( sea) prior to the Q word on Jackson and Davis.

What do you think?

Hi Dan, thanks for the question. I have Fitz and Jennings on my team as well and am wrestling with the same conflict you are.

Jennings scares me – he will be matched up against a healthy Darrelle Revis this week. I would need to see Britt for another week too.

That said, I think you are on the right track with Bowe (4 tds in 2 games) and I would probably roll with Fitz – he is way better at home and the coaches know that they have to get him the ball or lose. Fitz is the focus and therefore i like him over your other choices.

As for your trades, I don’t see why you can’t package Fitz and and Brown for a buy low candidate like Wes Welker or even DeSean Jackson.

Thanks for the question DJ.

Best will be going against Washington’s 20th ranked run D and Torain will be up against Detroit’s 27th ranked run D.

I would go with Torain this week – I have a bad feeling about Matthew Stafford in his first game back. The Lions are the worst running team in the NFL – the Redskins are averaging almost 30 more yards per game.

I wouldn’t tust Mike Hart – Donald brown may be back and they are going agianst houston;s surprisingly good 11th ranked run D.

Hey Jeff,

Jackson and Davis will play this week so I’d say you have to start them both. Davis at 75% will be better than Heath Miller at 100% especially with the dink and dunk offense that Troy Smith is going to emply for the Niners.

Santonio Holmes a and Steve Johnson are equal in my eyes – Mike Williams is not far behind! If Johnson is available, pick him up anyway and make your decision Sunday morning. Bottom line – you can’t go wrong with either.

BJG is already losing toucjes to Danny Woodcock – time to drop him anyway!
