If you haven’t already taken part in your Fantasy Football draft, it must be approaching. Although it may be a free foe all for some, drafting smart is a true art. Draft wisely and enjoy four months of competitive action.

Draft unwisely and have nothing to play for after six weeks of the NFL Regular season.

Scan Dave B’s Draft Strategies and by all means let me know where I’ve succeeded and where I’ve failed!

1)   Study, study, study! – You should start preparing for your draft now if you haven’t already. This can be as simple as subscribing to a Fantasy website that will send you daily updates. Preparation is key – drafts are unpredictable and if you go in having studied, chances are that you will be confident with every pick that you make.

2) Knowledge – This is as much of a reminder of #1 as anything else. Knowing if a player is in a platoon situation, is injured, is in a contract year or is playing in a player friendly system will all help you get a leg up on your competition. Also, take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the League Rules and base your knowledge on them.

Ican’t state it enough, but the more prepared that you are, the better your chances of dominating will be.

3) Organization – Now that you have studied and have gained some knowledge, it is time to organize your information. Notes are a good tool on draft day – notes on particular players, the teams they play for, their past performances and/or the coaches that they are playing for will undoubtedly help you on draft day.

You may only have 2-3 minutes to make a selection, so organization will stop you from making a snap, ill-advised pick. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

4)   Cheat Sheet – On draft day, the last thing that you will want to do is be forced to consult a bunch of magazines or websites to find out the best available at a position. A customized cheat sheet will allow you to quickly determine who to pick. Your cheat sheet should be in the form of tiers.

Take some time to divide players into groups of who have similar forecasts and projections. It will save you time and give you some piece of mind. Keep in mind that all of the Fantasy Football websites have their own versions of cheat sheets. If you don’t do one yourself, don’t panic, there are a million of them out there.

5) Don’t Worry – The player that you are targeting WILL sometimes be taken by the person drafting ahead of you.

Always be ready to pick a secondary player and don’t get too flustered about losing a particular player to the draftee ahead of you. Flexibility is a huge part of draft day. Know what you want to do and accomplish your goals.

6) Practice – there are a million sites out there in which you can join a mock draft any day any time. It certainly can’t hurt to do a few just to see the way that typical people are drafting this year. If there are good quarterbacks left at in the middle rounds of a few of your mock drafts, chances are that the same will likely hold true with yours.

7) Starters – By all means, make sure that you have your starting lineup (minus kickers) filled before going for depth.

Your starting lineup will win you your league; your depth just looks nice! As stated, don’t worry about your starting kicker until the last round!

8) Have Fun – This is not the Super Bowl! You will have chances to make additions/tweaks throughout the season via trades and the waiver wire.
