NCAA Free Pick: Troy St. vs. Middle Tennessee St.

Troy State Trojans at Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders Odds

Awwwright NCAA Football betting fanatics, it’s finally here. That’s right, the 2008 NCAA college football regular season opener.

This Week One NCAAF betting Free pick, featuring the Troy State Trojans at Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders, will be the first of what will undeniably be a thoroughly entertaining – and profitable – NCAA college football wagering season in the BetUS Sportsbook.

Now, let’s get down to the task at hand – picking a winner for this matchup.

Troy State

The Troy State Trojans, (8-4 SU, 8-3 ATS, 6-5 O/U), have six offensive linemen with starting experience back to help an entirely new backfield ease it way into new starting roles.

Sophomore quarterback Jamie Hampton and sophomore running back DuJuan Harris will need to shine right away and the receiving core will need to find a replacement for departed leading receiver Gary Banks.

The Trojans went 4-1 against the spread (ATS) at home and 4-2 ATS on the road while posting a 2-3 O/U home mark and 4-2 O/U road record.

The Trojans averaged a whopping 452.8 total yards of offense last season, (16th) including impressive passing (270.2) and rushing (36th) marks that each ranked in the top 50 nationally. The Trojans also put up an excellent 34.0 point per contest last season (25th).

Defensively, the Trojans allowed opponents to average 378.2 total yards (58th), including a whopping 195.2 rushing yards per game (96th). The Trojans did limit their opponents to just 24.6 points per contest last season (45th).

Middle Tennessee State

The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders, (5-7 SU, 6-4-1 ATS, 4-7 O/U) averaged 336.8 yards per game last season, (97th) and 25.7 points per contest, (74th) but allowed opponents to average a whopping 415.2 points per game, (80th) and 199.8 rushing yards per contest, (103rd), though they somehow managed to hold their opponents to just 28.2 points per game, (66th).

Quarterback Dwight Dasher threw for 1,148 yards as a freshman last season and added another 530 yards on the ground while throwing just three interceptions all season long. All-purpose wideout/running back, Desmond Gee is a dynamic playmaker but the Blue Raiders lost several key players on defense an will have three new starters in the secondary.

With a defense that will not be nearly as good as last season, the Blue Raiders will need their offensive stars to shine early and often.

Here is a look at some of the key trends for each team, followed by my NCAA college football Free Pick.

The Trojans are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 road games.
The Trojans are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
The Blue Raiders are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games on turf.
The Blue Raiders are 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall.
The Under is 5-1 in Trojans last 6 conference games.
The Under is 5-2 in Trojans last 7 games overall.
The Under is 4-1 in Blue Raiders last 5 games on turf.
The Under is 4-1 in Blue Raiders last 5 home games.
The Favorite is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings.

Analysis: I’ll keep this pick short and sweet for those NCAA college football bettors that have lots of wagering to do this weekend by saying that, not only are the Troy Trojans the better team in this matchup, but the more experienced one as well and should cover the spread in this contest narrowly. I’m thinking the Trojans and the ‘Under’ sound right for this Week One matchup.
