NCAA Football Week One Wagering – Eastern Kentucky at Cincinnati

The Eastern Kentucky Colonels finished the 2007 season with a stellar 9-3 overall recorded that included a perfect 8-0 mark in the Ohio Valley Conference and the program’s 19th conference title. The Colonels also advanced to the NCAA Division I FCS playoffs for a record 18th time and posted a winning record for the 30th consecutive year.

Still, beating the Cincinnati Bearcats, (10-3 SU, 4-3 Conf., 8-3-1 ATS, 5-6-1 O/U) on the road in their season opener figures to be a fairly tall task as the Bearcats routinely put money in the BetUS NCAA football wagering population’s pocket, going 4-2 ATS at home and an even better, 4-1-1- ATS on the road and beating Southern Mississippi 31-21 in the Papa Johns.com Bowl.

The Beracats, who also went 1-5 in O/U home wagers and 4-1-1 in O/U road wagers, returns several key members from last season’s successful squad, including leading rusher Jacob Ramsey, starting quarterback Dustin Grutza, linebacker Corey Smith and defensive tackle Terrill Byrd.

Led by first-year head coach Brian Kelly in 2007, the Bearcats surpassed all expectations while Kelly got the maximum out of all of his players.

Cornerbacks Mike Mickens and DeAngelo Smith return for their senior seasons after combining for 14 interceptions last year, but quarterback Ben Mauk lost his plea with the NCAA for a sixth year of eligibility, leaving Grutza as the starter.

The Colonels averaged 31.8 points per game while allowing 23.8 points per contest, while averaging 199.4 yards per game on the ground and another 187.2 passing yards each contest while allowing opponents 194.4 yards per game on the ground and another 216.4 passing yards per game.

Analysis: While I’m not going so far as to suggest that Eastern Kentucky will actually win this game outright, I am confident in the fact that they will cover the spread against the Bearcats – and likely cover it easily. Online college football bettors everywhere, should roll with the Eastern Kentucky Colonels and the enormous 31 ½ points they are getting here.
