CFL Futures – Who Will Win the 2014 Grey Cup?

CFL training camps have opened amid some serious labor strife but as of now it looks like all systems go for the upcoming season.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders will be out to defend their title and according to oddsmakers, they have a decent chance to do so. The top three choices come from the West – it isn’t until the Tiger-Cats pop up at 7/1 that we see the first team from the East hits the board.

So what will play out this season in the CFL? Who should we be keeping an eye on? Let’s take a look.

Odds to Win 2014 Grey Cup at Bodog as of May 25:

B.C. Lions 15/4

The Lions are the favorites to win it all on home turf this year and perhaps rightfully so. This team contended with a backup quarterback down the stretch only to bow out in the playoffs with a rusty and some say not-quite-healthy Travis Lulay.

With a strong defense, a well balanced offense and a healthy Lulay back in the mix, it is hard to look past BC to avenge what was deemed a disappointing season last year and win it all.

Calgary Stampeders 4/1

Calgary had the best record in the CFL last year and boasts a terrific all around offense – just like the Lions. They have also been BC’s kryptonite the last couple of seasons. Jon Cornish may be the best player in the CFL – he will be out to break more rushing records this year. It looks as though Calgary is BC’s biggest threat as per usual this year – a showdown for top seed in the West and a berth in the Grey Cup will go through one of these two teams.

We like Calgary to win it all this year – they should have gotten it done last year and will be a very motivated squad this season!

Saskatchewan Roughriders 4/1
[ad-4437448]
The defending champs got hot at precisely the right time last year and rode it to a Grey Cup win on their home turf. Do I expect another stellar streak at the end of the season? It’s possible. Do I expect the Riders to catch other teams off guard en route to another Grey Cup score – nope!

Hamilton Tiger-Cats 7/1

The defending Grey Cup runner-up Hamilton will have a new QB in town – Zach Collaros who looked terrific for Toronto last season takes over from Henry Burris. While Collaros looks solid, he’s no Henry Burris – his lack of experience will be an issue – for 2014 at least!

Toronto Argonauts 15/2

The Argos look like the best value on the board. In a weaker Eastern Conference they could be the best of the bunch. Ricky Ray is back as is Chad Owens to guide a team that won it all two seasons ago and faltered last year. While I don’t think Toronto will win it all, I do think they will represent the East – and once in the Big Game anything can happen!

Montreal Alouettes 8/1

Montreal is a team in transition – hard to think they will be able to compete with the teams with established offenses and defenses.

Edmonton Eskimos 9/1

Edmonton is the worst team in the West – there is no chance of them getting by BC, Calgary and Saskatchewan!

Winnipeg Blue Bombers 12/1

Winnipeg may have a chance – super sleeper team to come out of a weak East! But to think they win it all against some superior Western teams is just bad business!

Ottawa RedBlacks 18/1

First year team will have first year growing pains – no shame in that!
