The Yankees and Tigers continue their series on Tuesday night after a pitchers duel on Monday. New York led 1-0 for a majority of the game until Detroit got 2 in off C.C. Sabathia in the 7th inning and held on for a 2-1 victory.

The Tigers continued their hot start and now sit with the best record in the majors with 11 wins. They’ll look to continue their winning ways as the Yankees look to get back to the .500 mark on Tuesday.
New York Yankees
The Yankees got back to the .500 mark prior to their series with the Tigers with a sweep of the Tampa Rays. Now, they’ll once again have to battle back to the break-even mark as they hope to even up the series with the Tigers on Tuesday night. New York got a Mark Teixeira 3rd inning home run, but that was all the offense they could manufacture as they hit into some poor timed double plays late in the game.
The Yankees will send RH Nathan Eovaldi to the mound in hopes of grabbing a win. Eovaldi has received a no decision in both starts this season, with the Yankees losing both in the end.
In his first start, he went 5.1, allowing 8 hits and 3 runs. The game went an epic 19 innings with the Red Sox winning 6-5 in the end.
In his second start, Eovaldi went 5 and fly allowing 8 hits and 2 runs. The Yankees went on to lose to Baltimore 7-5.

Oakland
The first ten games of the season has been spent back and forth between extremes for the A’s. Four times they have shutout their opponent and five times they have scored 7 or more runs but they have just a 5-5 record to show for it. They have not won a single game where they have given up more than a single run and they are going to have to do something about that if they are going to be competitive this season. It is a small sample size but Oakland needs less variance.
Sonny Gray is certainly showing that he is the ace of the staff. He dominated on opening day with 8 innings of one hit ball and was only slightly less dominating in his second start, giving up 1ER over 7 against Seattle. Though not the most intimidating on the mound he has amazing presence and executes his game plan every time out. He has given up just 7 hits over two starts and is the reason the A’s are favoured.
Kansas City
The Royals started the season with seven straight victories but have lost their last two. Nobody thought they were going to go undefeated but I think most believed they wouldn’t see their streak end against the Twins. The pitching we got used to has been a factor for the Royals but the big surprise is that they are the top scoring team in baseball so far. We will see how long they can keep that up with Alex Rios on the shelf for a month. He was actually contributing.
This will be Jeremy Guthrie’s second turn of the season and the first was unimpressive. He is by far the weak link of the staff but the Royals have a knack for winning more often than they lose when he is on the hill. The Oakland lineup has been like KC’s so far. It is not loaded but they are putting a bunch of runs on the board. Guthrie will have to pitch deep into the game because the pen has been beat up the last couple of games.

Scoring runs seems to be a difficult task in the early going for both the Brewers and Pirates. After lighting up the scoreboard in 2014, the pair of NL Central teams look to get back to their hitting ways when they meet on Friday night. Both starters could make things tough on hitters once again as they both come in off solid 1st starts of the season.
Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers bats have been the main reason for their despair through their first 9 games. Getting shutout twice already, along with 4 games of 2 runs or less, the Brewers need to start finding some production somewhere. They’ll attempt to that following one of those shutouts in which they only had 6 hits in.
Milwaukee will send RH Jimmy Nelson to the mound to try and stop this two game losing skid. Nelson took these Pirates on in his one and only start of the season going 7 innings allowing no runs and just 2 hits. The right hander struck out 9.
Nelson struggled down the stretch of last season losing 7 straight starts and will be taking on the Pirates for the 2nd time in his career.
Things will not be any easier for the Brewers as they are going to be without Carlos Gomez for 15 days. Gomez was sidelined with a right hand string injury and with the way the Brewers have been hitting, this could be a very costly and bad timed injury for them.

Pittsburgh Pirates
Pittsburgh is in the same boat as the Brewers. Unable to hit the ball, the Pirates come in after being shutout 2 straight times to the Detroit Tigers in their series loss. The Pirates are scoring a mere 3.2 runs a game in this young season.
The Pirates can point to Andrew McCutchen and Josh Harrison as their main reason for struggling offensively.
McCutchen is hitting just .207 on the season and has gone hitless in 4 of the games played.
Josh Harrison is hitting just .194 and like McCutchen, has gone hitless in 4 of the games this season.
Pittsburgh will send left hander Jeff Locke to the mound. Locke got the win against Milwaukee in his first start of the season, going 6 strong innings, allowing 7 hits and just 2 runs.
Locke has made 8 careers starts against Milwaukee going 3-2 with a 3.86 ERA.

These two teams will resume their four game series tonight after the Nats took game one by a score of 5-2. The Phillies took two of three off the Nationals last weekend in Philadelphia and Washington will be looking for some retribution to get back to .500 and start making some ground on the division leading NY Mets.
Phillies
The season started out fairly well for the Phillies who were 3-3 after two series’ against top quality teams, the Red Sox and Nationals. This team has slipped back to what was expected of them before the outset of the season however and have dropped five straight and find themselves in the basement of the NL East.
The Phillies will send Sean O’Sullivan (0-0) to the hill tonight. The hefty right hander was solid in his last outing against the Nationals, tossing six innings and surrendering just two hits while striking out five and walking one in a no decision.
Philadelphia has not had terrible pitching this season, but run production has just been terribly difficult for them thus far. During their current five game losing skid the Phillies have managed to plate just 11 runs. They’ll be in tough tonight against Nationals ace Max Scherzer who is sporting a tidy 0.66 ERA in two starts.
Nationals
The aforementioned Scherzer is searching for win number one on the 2015-16 season, as he’s currently saddled with an 0-1 record despite sparkling numbers. Scherzer took a no decsion in the Nats’ 4-3 win over the Phillies last week and will be hoping his team can give him some more run support this time out.
Max has fanned eight batters in each of his last two outings and has walked just four batters so far this season. The Nationals’ bats have been lively of late, scoring 30 runs in their last five, but they were hard pressed to keep the Red Sox off the board in their mid-week series and gave up 22 runs in three games, dropping two of them.
With Scherzer on the hill tonight and a lineup that is starting to wake up this should be almost automatic for Washington and if they can get on O’Sullivan early, their pitcher should be able to guide the ship home as I don’t see the Phillies lighting up Scherzer at all.
Phillies vs. Nationals 4* Free Pick
This one seems like a no-brainer and the odds would suggest that as well. The payout is not significant enough to take the Nationals on their own, but this is a nice game to throw into a three or four game parlay that you should be able to rest easy on. The Nationals are just a far better team and they have one of their seemingly endless stable of aces on this mound tonight. Washington should take this one with ease, play the Nationals with confidence.
