The Yankees and Tigers continue their series on Tuesday night after a pitchers duel on Monday. New York led 1-0 for a majority of the game until Detroit got 2 in off C.C. Sabathia in the 7th inning and held on for a 2-1 victory.
[dfads params=’groups=63744&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]
The Tigers continued their hot start and now sit with the best record in the majors with 11 wins. They’ll look to continue their winning ways as the Yankees look to get back to the .500 mark on Tuesday.
The Yankees got back to the .500 mark prior to their series with the Tigers with a sweep of the Tampa Rays. Now, they’ll once again have to battle back to the break-even mark as they hope to even up the series with the Tigers on Tuesday night. New York got a Mark Teixeira 3rd inning home run, but that was all the offense they could manufacture as they hit into some poor timed double plays late in the game.
The Yankees will send RH Nathan Eovaldi to the mound in hopes of grabbing a win. Eovaldi has received a no decision in both starts this season, with the Yankees losing both in the end.
In his first start, he went 5.1, allowing 8 hits and 3 runs. The game went an epic 19 innings with the Red Sox winning 6-5 in the end.
In his second start, Eovaldi went 5 and fly allowing 8 hits and 2 runs. The Yankees went on to lose to Baltimore 7-5.
In one career start against the Tigers, the right hander went 6 innings, allowing just 1 run on 6 hits in another no decision.
[dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]
The Yankees will hope to get back to hitting, as they were averaging 5.3 runs a game prior to Monday’s 1 run effort.
After losing Max Scherzer in the offseason, the Tigers rotation was a big question mark coming into the season. However, the Tigers starting pitching has been filthy this year. The starting rotation is currently 9-2 with a 2.37 ERA. They’ll look for another solid performance when they send the youngers, Kyle Lobstein.
Lobstein brings a 1-0 record into the contest. Lobstein has made one start on the season and he defeated division rival Cleveland in an 8-5 decision. Lobstein went 5 and fly as well allowing 8 hits and 3 runs in the win.
Lobstein faced the Yankees once last season, going 6 innings allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits. The south paw received a no decision in the effort.
[dfads params=’groups=63745&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]
The Tigers hope the SS Jose Iglesias can continue his hot tear against the Yankees, as he’s hit .435 over a 13 game span vs New York.
Stick with the hot team.
Trends say that the Tigers have success when Lobstein is on the mound and combine that with their hot streak going, the line could easily be more. Grab the Tigers as they take the first 2 games of the series against New York.

MLB Betting Odds
MLB Moneyline: Orioles +115 / Red Sox -135
MLB Betting Over/Under Odds: 9 runs
PITCHING MATCH UP: Baltimore: Ubaldo Jimenez (1-0, 0.00 ERA) vs.
Boston: Joe Kelly (1-0, 1.29 ERA)
1. The Red Sox rank 1st in the Majors in runs scored.
2. The Orioles have also been solid at the plate this season ranking 6th in runs scored.
3. The Red Sox are atop the AL East ? game up on the Rays and 1 game up on the Orioles
This season the Red Sox are 2-1 at home and the Orioles are 2-1 on the road.
In their last games the Orioles beat the New York Yankees 7-5 and the Red Sox lost to the Washington Nationals 10-5.
Ubaldo Jimenez signed a big contract to come to the Orioles last season, but was a big disappointment going 6-9 with an ERA of 4.81. However, in the first start of the season he was stellar going 7 innings and only giving up 1 hit in a 7-1 win over the Blue Jays.
While Jimenez was great in his first start of the season he has been less than stellar going 1-3 with an ERA of 9.37 in 7 career starts against the Red Sox.
Joe Kelly started the season on the DL, but in his first start of the season he was solid only giving up 1 earned run in 7 innings in a win over the Yankees. Last season against the Orioles he was 1-1 with an ERA of 3.38.
The Orioles are 7-1 in Jimenez’s last 8 starts.
The Red Sox are 4-0 in Kelly’s last 4 starts.
Not only have the Orioles won 6 of their last 8 games facing the Red Sox, but they have won their last 5 against them in Boston.
While the Red Sox have scored the most runs in the Majors so far early in the season their pitching only ranks 28th in team ERA.
After losing 4 of 5 the Orioles have rebounded and won 2 straight games.
* Baltimore is 19-9 in their last 28 games following a win.
* Baltimore is 1-6 in their last 7 vs. a team with a winning record.
* Boston is 5-2 in their last 7 overall.
* Boston is 7-16 in their last 23 home games.
* Boston has an Over record of 5-0 in their last 5 home games.
Think this could be a high scoring game tonight, but the Red Sox will come out on top, take Game 1 of this series, and snap their home losing streak to the Orioles.
MLB: Oakland A’s vs. Kansas City Royals Predictions
Major League Baseball betting sees the Oakland A’s taking on the Kansas City Royals on Friday April 17 at Kaufmann Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. Cappers Picks provides complimentary handicapping picks all MLB season long.
The Royals got off to a hot start but now they are looking to get back to winning after back to back losses to the Twins.
Oakland A’s (5-5) vs. Kansas City Royals (7-2)
Friday April 17
8:10PM
Kaufmann Stadium – Kansas City, MO
MLB Betting Line: Oakland -115, Kansas City -105
MLB Betting Total: 7.5
Probable Pitchers:
OAK: Sonny Gray (R)
KC: Jeremy Guthrie (R)
Oakland
The first ten games of the season has been spent back and forth between extremes for the A’s. Four times they have shutout their opponent and five times they have scored 7 or more runs but they have just a 5-5 record to show for it. They have not won a single game where they have given up more than a single run and they are going to have to do something about that if they are going to be competitive this season. It is a small sample size but Oakland needs less variance.
Sonny Gray is certainly showing that he is the ace of the staff. He dominated on opening day with 8 innings of one hit ball and was only slightly less dominating in his second start, giving up 1ER over 7 against Seattle. Though not the most intimidating on the mound he has amazing presence and executes his game plan every time out. He has given up just 7 hits over two starts and is the reason the A’s are favoured.
Kansas City
The Royals started the season with seven straight victories but have lost their last two. Nobody thought they were going to go undefeated but I think most believed they wouldn’t see their streak end against the Twins. The pitching we got used to has been a factor for the Royals but the big surprise is that they are the top scoring team in baseball so far. We will see how long they can keep that up with Alex Rios on the shelf for a month. He was actually contributing.
This will be Jeremy Guthrie’s second turn of the season and the first was unimpressive. He is by far the weak link of the staff but the Royals have a knack for winning more often than they lose when he is on the hill. The Oakland lineup has been like KC’s so far. It is not loaded but they are putting a bunch of runs on the board. Guthrie will have to pitch deep into the game because the pen has been beat up the last couple of games.
MLB Betting Trends:
MLB Betting Prediction: Oakland -105
MLB Score Prediction: Oakland 4 – Kansas City 2
The A’s have their best on the hill against the Royals’ worst. Not exactly a likely win for KC but you are still getting pretty good value on the other side.
MLB Baseball betting action sees the Milwaukee Brewers taking on the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Cappers Picks provides free MLB baseball handicapping tips all season long.
Milwaukee Brewers (2-7) vs. Pittsburgh Pirates (3-6)
Stadium: PNC Park (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania)
Time/Date: 7:05 PM ET; Friday April 17th
MLB Odds: Milwaukee Brewers +115/ Pittsburgh Pirates -125
Over/Under: 7 runs (-120 Over)
Pitching Matchup: Jimmy Nelson (1-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Jeff Locke (1-0, 3.00)
Scoring runs seems to be a difficult task in the early going for both the Brewers and Pirates. After lighting up the scoreboard in 2014, the pair of NL Central teams look to get back to their hitting ways when they meet on Friday night. Both starters could make things tough on hitters once again as they both come in off solid 1st starts of the season.
The Brewers bats have been the main reason for their despair through their first 9 games. Getting shutout twice already, along with 4 games of 2 runs or less, the Brewers need to start finding some production somewhere. They’ll attempt to that following one of those shutouts in which they only had 6 hits in.
Milwaukee will send RH Jimmy Nelson to the mound to try and stop this two game losing skid. Nelson took these Pirates on in his one and only start of the season going 7 innings allowing no runs and just 2 hits. The right hander struck out 9.
Nelson struggled down the stretch of last season losing 7 straight starts and will be taking on the Pirates for the 2nd time in his career.
Things will not be any easier for the Brewers as they are going to be without Carlos Gomez for 15 days. Gomez was sidelined with a right hand string injury and with the way the Brewers have been hitting, this could be a very costly and bad timed injury for them.
On the road this season, Milwaukee is 1-2 S.U.
Pittsburgh is in the same boat as the Brewers. Unable to hit the ball, the Pirates come in after being shutout 2 straight times to the Detroit Tigers in their series loss. The Pirates are scoring a mere 3.2 runs a game in this young season.
The Pirates can point to Andrew McCutchen and Josh Harrison as their main reason for struggling offensively.
McCutchen is hitting just .207 on the season and has gone hitless in 4 of the games played.
Josh Harrison is hitting just .194 and like McCutchen, has gone hitless in 4 of the games this season.
Pittsburgh will send left hander Jeff Locke to the mound. Locke got the win against Milwaukee in his first start of the season, going 6 strong innings, allowing 7 hits and just 2 runs.
Locke has made 8 careers starts against Milwaukee going 3-2 with a 3.86 ERA.
The Pirates had been playing some decent ball up until these past two shutouts. They scored 5 runs in the series opener vs. Detroit, and 10 runs before that. With both teams having already met just a week ago, pitchers will certainly be able to know what the hitters don’t like. Back the Pirates here as Locke has had success in PNC Park throughout his career and should be able to stifle this Brewers lineup.
National League East Division foes will meet on Friday night when the Philadelphia Phillies (3-7) take on the Washington Nationals (4-6). Cappers Picks will provide free MLB picks all season so check back often.

This one seems like a no-brainer and the odds would suggest that as well. The payout is not significant enough to take the Nationals on their own, but this is a nice game to throw into a three or four game parlay that you should be able to rest easy on. The Nationals are just a far better team and they have one of their seemingly endless stable of aces on this mound tonight. Washington should take this one with ease, play the Nationals with confidence.
