NFL Odds: Chargers vs. Broncos

Based on their 27-point win at Oakland, the Denver Broncos could be the surprise team of the 2008 season. Sunday the play host to the San Diego Chargers in Week 1 nfl betting action.

NFL Sunday – San Diego Chargers vs. Denver Broncos

Oh, man, I’m loving this BetUS online sportsbook betting line! Okay, before I get into it, let me just say that what the Broncos did to the Raiders on Monday night was pure ecstasy. From a guy who’s made more online betting wagers on NFL games then he’d like to remember, the Broncos were just awesome.

They were almost as cool as the Florida Gators who on the Saturday before kicked a field goal in their game versus Miami, with less than a minute, to cover the spread. Go Gators! Hey, go Broncos to.

It doesn’t bother me that I lost my wager on the woeful Raiders after the Broncos blew them around like so many pieces of burnt pirate ash. What I got from the game, what I saw in this Broncos team, leads me to love their chances in the AFC West.

The Chargers are just not as good as advertised, okay? They had a nice run in the playoffs, but in reality they don’t have the defensive backfield to contend for the AFC Conference Championship.

For online betting fans, San Diego is that horse that everybody and their mother keeps betting on that always finishes second. They’re the late 1970’s Houston Oilers. They’re the Dallas Cowboys with Danny White. They’re going to tease every single male NFL betting fan until his online wagering balls turn blue. That’s the Chargers.

Here are the BetUS online betting odds for this game:

San Diego Chargers – 1 ½ – 110 – 125 O 46 – 110
Denver Broncos + 1 ½ – 110 + 105 U 46 – 110

Here are a few online wagering trends that might help us find a good online bet in this game:

The San Diego Chargers are 5 and 0 against the spread in their last 5 games on the road.
The San Diego Chargers are 4 and 0 against the spread versus a team with a winning record.
The Denver Broncos are 5 and 13 against the spread in their last 18 games versus a team from the AFC Conference.

The Denver Broncos are 4 and 1 against the spread in their last 5 games at home.

What’s not to like about the Chargers? Lots! Without Shawne Merriman, getting pressure on the quarterback could be tough. Without pressure on the quarterback those overrated defensive backs suddenly become susceptible to that excellent Denver Broncos’ aerial attack.

Wide receiver Brandon Marshall had over 100 receptions last season. He’s back this week. Rookie Eddie Royal looked like a first team All-Pro player against the Raiders on Monday night. Then, of course, there’s Selvin Young who is actually a very good running back.

All of it starts with Jay Cutler who has improved significantly this season. Yes, I can already tell. But the Broncos biggest strength is their defense. There’s something about this Denver defense that’s different than last season’s version. I don’t know exactly what it is. They appear faster for some reason.

In any case, I love the Broncos to cover the online betting spread in this game. One and a half points is a give away to me. I like the Broncos to beat the San Diego Chargers and cover the online sportsbook betting spread.
