Chiefs vs. Falcons Betting Preview – Trends + Pick

In week 3 betting action BETUS handicappers preview the Falcons Hosting the Lowly Chiefs in a Matchup of Opposite Directions

Falcons Host Lowly Chiefs in Matchup of Opposite Directions

The Kansas City Chiefs (0-2 SU, 1-1 ATS, 0-2 O/U) are an absolute mess BetUS NFL online Sportsbook bettors!

Despite fighting valiantly in their season opener, the Chiefs fell to the New England Patriots 17-10 and took an even bigger step backwards in Week Two, losing to the mediocre Oakland Raiders 23-8 at home on Sunday.

The Chiefs have played respectable defense so far, allowing just 20.0 points per contest, (15th), but have struggled to move the ball in a big way offensively, averaging just 9.0 points per game, (29th).

With a quarterback situation that is getting bleaker by the minute, Kansas City has averaged just 158.5 passing yards per contest (21st) and a pitiful 78.5 yards per game rushing despite having bruising running back Larry Johnson a full strength. Johnson rushed for just 22 yards on 12 carries against the Raiders and sounds like he wants out of K.C. all of a sudden (the whiner).

The Chiefs have held their opponents to just 133.5 passing yards per game, (eighth) but gave up 164 yards on the ground to Oakland running back Darren McFadden on Sunday and allowed their longtime rivals to rush for a mind-boggling 300 yards total.

The rebuilding Atlanta Falcons (1-1 SU, 1-1 ATS, 1-1 O/U) got their 2008-09 season off to a positive start by beating the lowly Detroit Lions 34-21 in Week One, but fell back to earth with Sunday’s 24-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Atlanta is averaging a solid 354.0 total yards of offense (ninth) with the majority coming from the team’s surprising rushing attack, which is averaging a stellar 211.5 yards per game, good for third in the league.

Atlanta has been a middle-of-the-pack unit across the board defensively, allowing 22.5 points per game, (22nd). Rookie quarterback Matt Ryan was sacked four times and harassed into throwing two interceptions last week.

Analysis: I really like the direction the Falcons are heading in under new head coach Mike Smith. The team has a legitimate star in running back Michael Turner and a budding one in quarterback Matt Ryan. While the Falcons could certainly use more talent throughout their roster, the team has gotten their rebuilding plan off very wisely if you ask me.

The Chiefs on the other hand, look like the worst team in all of football these days. Not only is the talent extremely thin in Kansas City, but head coach Herman Edwards looks totally clueless lately and starting running back Larry Johnson has visibly quit on the franchise.

While Edwards is a fine defensive coach, his idea of offense is to run the ball on first and second down every time and then throw on third when everyone, including napping infants, knows exactly what he’s going to do.

To make a long story short, take the Falcons to cover the spread at home against a Chiefs team that used three quarterbacks last week and looks like they’re one step away from completely imploding.
