Preakness Stakes Gambling Props – Prop Sheet Betus Racebook

Here are some hot prop bets to consider for the 2010 Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Racetrack on May 15th…

Preakness Stakes Prop Betting Special

Does it seem absurd to bet on props in the Preakness Stakes instead of the straight up race? Well, considering we’re wagering on tiny men riding beasts around a track, it shouldn’t. We’re through one leg in the 2010 Triple Crown and, naturally, questions abound about the Kentucky Derby winners’ chances at winning all three races.

For that reason, most of the popular prop bets popping up at books relate to Super Saver. Here’s a look at some you can wager on right now.

WILL SUPER SAVER WIN THE 2010 PREAKNESS STAKES?

Yes: +200

No: -320

It seems droves of bettors get caught up in the Triple Crown hype every year and pile onto the Derby winner before the Preakness runs – and I think I’m part of that hype this time around.

The truth is that Super Saver has plenty going for him. First off, there’s his jockey. Add up the last two Kentucky Derbys and the last Preakness Stakes and you have a 100 per cent victory rate for the brash Calvin Borel, who loves to ride the rail. That he won the Derby and Preakness with two difference horses last year is a testament to his ability.

Also, Super Saver should be fresh, having raced just twice before the Derby.

Pick: Yes +200

WILL THE WINNING HORSE NUMBER BE ODD OR EVEN?

Yes: -115

No: -115

The Preakness positions won’t be posted until Wednesday. Tentatively, the best advice I can give is to make your pick based on Super Saver’s position.

Pick: -115

WILL SUPER SAVER WIN THE 2010 TRIPLE CROWN?

Yes: +400

No: -700

This is a tougher decision than some bettors may believe. Sure, the historical odds are hugely stacked against Super Saver. No horse has won the Triple Crown since 1978.

But Calvin Borel sure does know how to win a big race and he was oh-so close to winning the jockey’s Triple Crown last year. There’s just one problem: we don’t know for sure if Borel will ride Super Saver in the Belmont Stakes. After all, he switched from Mine That Bird to Rachel Alexandra over the first two Triple Crown legs last year.

Based on that uncertainty and the low value of +400 relative to the long-shot historical odds, I can’t recommend picking Super Saver to go the distance.

Pick: No -700
