Huskies vs Spartans Pick – NCAA Tournament
The Spartans won on Friday night but they were definitely pushed harder than I would have expected – Virginia just has a way of getting under your skin and Michigan State struggled to put them away.

With scoring being down it seems like there are more potential Cy Young winners than ever. Lets take a quick look at the favourite, a contender and a dark horse candidate in each league. There is some good value out there for tying up your money all season.
It wasn’t all that long ago that Minnesota was one of the most consistent winning franchises in the game, winning 94 games as recently as 2010.
Basketball programs are as much about coaches as they are players which is why some schools have been good for so long and other rocket up when they make the right hire.
The Cyclones has made it to the second weekend of the tournament but not without casualty as F Georges Niang, their third leading scorer is out indefinitely. This happened in their first game and it was impressive the way they regrouped to beat North Carolina.
At this time of year it is easy to fall in love with a team because you see them so often. The opposite happened with me and Virginia though. Seeing them more only confirmed my theories about their limitations.
It is amazing how quickly we get down to the Sweet Sixteen isn’t it. There are lots of really good teams in the field but as we have seen all tournament long sometimes the matchup is as important as anything. Some team’s strengths are easily neutralized and some team’s weaknesses are easily exploited.
The Grizzlies are playing some really good basketball right now. They are 13-5 since the All-Star break and have climbed all the way to seventh in the West standings. Phoenix, Dallas and them are separated by just a half game but only two of those three can make the playoffs.
The Thunder are playing their usual high quality brand of basketball and are looking really good having won their last three road games after dropping a couple in a row.
The Cleveland Indians somehow won 92 games last season and snuck into the playoffs. In fact, they even pushed Detroit for the division title but there is no way they don’t take a step back this year.
After being competitive the previous couple of season the Chicago White Sox fell off the map last year. This was just an all around poor team that had weaknesses in their lineup and a pitching staff that was nowhere near good enough to compensate…it didn’t help that the Indians and Royals suddenly got good either.
The Cyclones were among the group of highly seeded teams that let their opponents linger for much longer than expected. This was a game for the first half but in the second half Iowa State pulled away posting some impressive offensive numbers including: 93 points and 64% shooting from the field for the game.
If you read my preview of Coastal Carolina vs. Virginia, or any Virginia game really, you know I am not a big fan of the Cavs. The final score from their opener against the Chanticleers is more flattering than the game which was in doubt until the final 6 or 7 minutes despite the discrepancy in the seeding.
The Huskies needed overtime to dispatch St. Joe’s out of the A10 on Thursday.
The Spartans are an early favourite to represent the East Region despite being just a #4 seed.
When the Cyclones are at their best they are an exciting offensive team that can score with anybody on the country. They have a versatile lineup but at the same time they lack real size and that can be exploited.
