With the injury to Neymar it now looks like Argentina is the best choice to continue the streak of South American teams winning the World Cup on their home continent.
The Arizona Wildcats are entering their third season under head coach Rich Rodriguez, and they’re making strides toward improvement, having gone 8-5 overall and 4-5 in the Pac-12 both years.
The California Golden Bears are not a good football team. Sorry to be so blunt with fans of Berkeley, but there’s no nice way of saying that this group was not a contender in 2013, and it’s going to be one in 2014.
The Colorado Buffaloes are a ways a way from being competitive in the Pac-12. That was evidenced when they went 4-8 overall last season, and it’s even clearer when you look at their 1-8 record in conference play – a record bad enough for a last-place standing in the Pac-12 South Division.
The Oregon State Beavers are coming off of a 2013 college football season that saw them go 4-5 in conference play, while posting a 7-6 record overall. Recapping the year that was, simply put: It was a roller coaster.
The MLB season marches on. The teams have begun to show us what they have to offer, but there’s still a long way to go in a season that’s a marathon, not a sprint. With that said, it’s these opinions we formulate that will decide whether this season will be a profitable one for us or not.
The Yankees snapped out of their funk and won 3 of 4 at Minnesota over the weekend. Heading into Monday they are tied with Toronto in the loss column but still a couple of games back.
The visiting Jays are hoping to right the ship in Southern California after a four-game sweep at the hands of the AL West-leading Oakland Athletics. Between a slate of injuries and uninspired play, it hasn’t been a good road trip for Toronto; it doesn’t help that the teams in California are currently on a roll.
The Washington Nationals host the Baltimore Orioles on Monday in the opening game of a four-game series that will see the teams make the trip over to Baltimore midway through. Both teams have been in fine form of late, which should lead to an entertaining series.
Argentina and the Netherlands Play for a Spot in the Final
In what has all the makings of a Classic in São Paulo, the Netherlands meets Argentina for the right to play for the Big Prize. The Netherlands had looked unstoppable in almost every aspect of the game before a somewhat substandard effort last time out versus Costa Rica while Argentina?
Undermanned Brazil Hopes to Hold Off Germany in First World Cup Semi
Host country Brazil booked their ticket into the semi-finals of World Cup 2014 but things couldn’t have gone much worse for the South American juggernaut. Wolrd Cup star Neymar will miss the match with a fractured vertebra and Captain and central defender Thiago Silva will be suspended after is suspended after a second yellow card.
With every game the pressure builds on the host nation. There is always pressure on the favourite and the host but when you combine the two, especially in a soccer mad country like Brazil you get some serious intensity.
Alabama was its usual powerhouse self in 2013, except for a damning collapse at the end of the season – a loss to in-state nemesis Auburn and a Sugar Bowl loss to Oklahoma.
It kind of sucks to be Arkansas starting QB Brandon Allen. His gradual ascendance to the starting job in Fayetteville coincided with the receiver talent evaporating at the program and the run-first philosophy of coach Bret Bielema. Allen also battled a shoulder ailment for a good chunk of the 2013 season.
Nebraska fans are split on Bo Pelini. There are a bunch of Cornhuskers fans who really don’t like the guy at all and want him canned in no time. On the other hand, there are a decent amount of fans who appreciate the hard nosed spirit he brings to Lincoln and hope he stays around for forever. Pelini is back for another year.
