Dave B’s NFL Power Rankings – Week 7
Wow, what a Week 6 it was! Upsets, last minute wins and some spectacular performances highlighted another typically topsy-turvy week. There is some significant movement at the top of the Rankings this week and some bottom feeders that look to be creeping their way into the top 15.
Headline: AFC West Showdown on Monday Night – Broncos visit Chargers
Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos continue their difficult early season schedule on Monday Night Football with a trip to San Diego and first place in the AFC West on the line. Both the Broncos and the Chargers are coming off losses in Week 5 and should be motivated in this most important and intriguing game.
Things aren’t going as planned in Big D (do they ever). After an important win against New York to start the season the Cowboys have been pretty lifeless losing ugly against Seattle and Chicago and beating only Tampa Bay.
This week, the Sprint Cup series hits the midway point of this year’s Chase to the title with the running of the Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The Ohio State Buckeyes picked up a big national television win last weekend against Nebraska. Urban Meyer’s Buckeyes throttled the Cornhuskers 63-38 in Columbus. Ohio State enters this contest at 6-0 and ranked eighth in the nation.
The Kansas City Chiefs were supposed to bounce back this season. To date their only win was against a New Orleans squad that was in a funk until just recently.
The Rams (3-2) are coming off a great win handing the Cardinals their first loss sacking Arizona QB Kevin Kolb 3 times. The Dolphins are only 2-3, but they are coming off a solid home win over the Bengals.
The Bengals (3-2) offense really struggled last week in a surprising loss to the Dolphins, but there is a good chance they will get back on track facing the winless Browns (0-6).
The Falcons (5-0) are one of only 2 remaining undefeated teams and while the Raiders (1-3) are coming off a bye they were crushed in their previous game.
Last week’s win by the Colts over Green Bay might have been the most shocking result of the season – even more so than the Vikings win against San Francisco.
The Louisville Cardinals and Pittsburgh Panthers will square off in a key Big East battle this Saturday. Louisville comes into this one with a perfect 5-0 record on the year. The Cardinals have made their way up to number 16 in the rankings.
Headline: Viking Look to Add Washington to their List of Casualties in Week 6
The surprising Minnesota Vikings look to go 5-1 on the season when they pay visit to the improving but banged up Washington Redskins on Sunday afternoon. Minnesota hasn’t exactly lit the world on fire offensively but Washington has stopped nobody on defense.
Headline: Cards Look to Bounce Back into Win Column Versus Unflattering Bills in Week 6
The Arizona Cardinals finally lost their first game last week in rather embarrassing fashion on National Television but still sit atop the NFC West. Their challenge this week – stop the somewhat balanced attack of the Buffalo Bills to go 5-1 on the season.
The Lions desperately needed a week off after a tough start to the season. Unfortunately while they were licking their wounds things were getting even tougher with the Vikings winning again and the Eagles losing a nail-biter to Pittsburgh that has to have them pretty mad.
The No. 5 Kansas State Wildcats head to Jack Trice Stadium to take on the Iowa State Cyclones this weekend, and while both have found success in the first half of 2012, only one is considered a title contender.
The No. 25 Michigan Wolverines may be matched up with the Illinois Fighting Illini this weekend, but you have to wonder if the team from Ann Arbor isn’t looking ahead at their game next week with the Michigan State Spartans.
