Now, with that in mind, let’s look at the NCAA college football Odds to win the Pacific 10 Conference in 2008.
2008 NCAA Football Odds To Win Pacific 10
Arizona +2000
(5-7 SU, 4-5 (C), 6-5 ATS, 5-6 O/U)
The Wildcats should score plenty of points with ten starters returning on offense, but could have big problems on defense with the loss of both starting cornerbacks and several members of the team’s defensive line.
Arizona State +400
(10-3 SU, 7-2 (C), 6-7 ATS, 4-9 O/U)
The Sun Devils succeeded in a big way for head coach Dennis Erickson and could win the Pac-10 in 2008 with a terrific offense led by senior quarterback Rudy Carpenter. If this team’s defense holds up, don’t be surprised to see this squad surpass all expectations.
California +800
(7-6 SU, 3-6 (C), 4-9 ATS, 5-7 O/U)
The Golden Bears dropped six of their last seven regular season games last year and has a quarterback controversy on its hands between Nate Longshore and Kevin Riley to start the 2008 season. Sounds like trouble brewing for head coach Jeff Tedford’s team.
Oregon +600
(9-4 SU, 5-4 (C), 9-4 ATS, 6-7 O/U)
Exciting quarterback Dennis Dixon is gone and the offense is rebuilding. It’s a good thing the Ducks will be strong on defense this season. An experienced offensive line should help the Ducks groom young quarterback Justin Roper.
Oregon State +5000
(9-4 SU, 6-3 (C), 8-4 ATS, 6-6 O/U)
Until the Beavers can find a quarterback better than either Sean Canfield or Lyle Moevao, this team will have more than its share of struggles despite having the nation’s best run defense last season.
The loss of senior running back Yves Bernard will also hurt immensely.
Stanford +3000
(4-8 SU, 3-6 (C), 5-7 ATS, 3-8 O/U)
The Cardinal will have to replace starting quarterback T.C. Ostrander and both of their starting wide receivers from a year ago, but will be better on the defensive side of the ball with nine returning starters. Still, winning will be tough unless the Cardinal can score some points in 2008.
Southern Cal -300
(11-2 SU, 7-2 (C), 7-6 ATS, 3-10 O/U)
Pete Carroll will have a strong defensive unit in 2008 while breaking in new quarterback Mark Sanchez. While this team lost ten players to the NFL Draft, the fact of the matter is that not many teams have the near-NFL level of talent the Trojans seem to import on an annual basis now.
UCLA +800
(6-7 SU, 5-4 (C), 9-4 ATS, 5-8 O/U)
While there is plenty of excitement under new head coach Rick Nueheisel, the Bruins will have to replace plenty of position players on both sides of the ball, not to mention the fact that UCLA is on shaky ground at the quarterback position with the injured co-starter Ben Olson scheduled to return prior to the team’s season opener.
Washington +2000
(4-9 SU, 2-7 (C), 6-7 ATS, 9-4 O/U)
Tyrone Willingham and his staff are running on borrowed time if they don’t win in 2008. Unfortunately, the Huskies have a ton of weaknesses, starting at quarterback where junior starter Joe Locker needs to improve in a hurry. The Huskies also need their atrocious defense to improve in a big way. Sounds like too much to get done in 2008.
Washington State +5000
(5-7 SU, 3-6 (C), 6-6 ATS, 6-5 O/U)
The Cougars have a new, offensive-minded head coach in Paul Wuff, but will have to bear with the growing pains of first-year stating quarterback Gary Rodgers. Defensively, the Cougars should be strong with eight returning starters
