NASCAR Betting – NASCAR All Ready Revved-Up
Yo, clocksters! Becky woke up yours truly early in the a.m. on Sunday, got some of that black bean into me, and got me ready to check out the Daytona 500. I’ve only been a fan of NASCAR for about a year, but I have to tell you that I’m hooked. Maybe it’s because every single one of those drives has a wife who could burn a hole through a piece of steel with their eyes.
Or, maybe I just like making bets on fast cars. My man Mike Van Fleet, who is about as close to being an expert about NASCAR as I know, made a nice $20 BetUS wager on Mark Martin. At odds of 25 to 1 I couldn’t argue against him. He lost, but I don’t think he cares. It hurt him more that his man-crush Jeff Gordon didn’t even finish the race.
Oh, well, there’s this weekend, right?
Here are some thoughts on the Sprint Cup Championship:
I’ve got a few bucks on “Smoke” – – that’s Tony Stewart to you clocksters unfamiliar with oval racing. I’ve got Smoke at 9 to 1. His odds have dropped to 4.5 to 1. There’s a reason for that. Toyota should have garnered the top two spots at Daytona on Sunday. Kyle Busch, who is racing with team Gibbs for the first time this year, looked like a winner all the way up until the last caution flag.
He still had a shot, but I don’t think he and Smoke were communicating all that well towards the end. Smoke took the lead and then ducked down and appeared to be trying to block Busch. Heck, maybe he was expecting young Kyle to give him a push past the Dodge cars, but he didn’t get anything like. Bad teamwork either way, right? Those guys will improve their teamwork and Gibbs Racing and Toyota will win a bunch of these things this year. That should make Smoke and Kyle Busch both hard to handle.
Denny Hamlin, another Gibbs driver, is up there at BetUS odds of + 1000. Kyle Busch is at + 1200. Both are excellent BetUS future book wagers at this point.
What happened to Hendrick Motorsports? Early on in the Daytona 500 it sure looked like they had the entire race to themselves. Jimmie Johnson was right there, Dale Earnhardt Jr. was up close, and Jeff Gordon appeared to be biding his time. Like I wrote above, Gordon didn’t finish the race, Jr. sort of got back into contention but couldn’t really make a move and Jimmie fell back and never got back into it.
It was the first Cup race of the year. So, I’m not worried about any of these guys. The big issue I have with all of three Hendrick drives is that that their odds are all ready almost too low to make a bet on – – Jimmie is at BetUS odds of + 450, Jeff is sitting up there at BetUS odds of + 450 and Jr. is at BetUS odds of + 500.
Not cool, Becky.
Then, there’s Dodge. Kurt Busch played super awesome dude teammate to Ryan Newman by giving Newman a much needed push past Smoke during the end of the Daytona 500. Newman won it. How nice of Kurth Busch, right? Busch finished second and Dodge took home the top two prizes in NASCAR’s most prestigious race.
Could the two of these guys keep it going all year? Nah. Sure, Busch could because he’s won a Cup before, but Newman? I don’t think so.
Newman’s odds are + 2000. Even at those nice odds he’s somewhat of an underlay in my book. I like Kurt Busch at + 1200, but I’d rather put my money on his brother Kyle. Kyle has the support network to make a run every week. I don’t think the Dodge cars are up to snuff during the long haul. Give me those souped-up Camry’s any day!
That’s it for this week, clocksters!
Until next week, Becky says good luck!
