NASCAR Betting Odds – 3M Performance 400
By BetUS Staff
With only four races remaining until the Chase begins, it’s all or nothing for some NASCAR drivers this weekend in the 3M Performance 400 at Michigan International Speedway. Drivers on the Chase bubble have to finish near the head of the pack this weekend, leaving NASCAR betting enthusiasts with some tough decisions to make.
Heading into this weekend’s race Jeff Gordon continues to hold a comfortable lead atop the points standings, despite his late-race spinout last weekend that dropped him from the lead to ninth where he would eventually finish at Watkins Glen. Gordon has a 344-point lead over Denny Hamlin in the standings, but the main concern in his hunt for another championship should be Tony Stewart.
Nobody has been driving as well as Stewart lately. After going winless through the first half of the season Stewart has been on fire recently, winning three of the last four races including last week’s Centurion Boats at The Glen. Stewart only has one career victory at Michigan, but the way he’s been driving the Top Sportsbooks oddsmakers had to make him the race favorite on the NASCAR odds at +550.
Stewart isn’t alone at the top though, as Jimmie Johnson is also logged in at +550 despite never winning at Michigan. Johnson is tied with Gordon for the season wins lead at four, but he hasn’t seen the checkers since winning at Richmond back in May. After a tough two-race stretch in July that saw him place back-to-back 30-plus finishes, Johnson has got back on track lately with a third place last week at The Glen and a fifth-place finish at Pocono Raceway a week earlier.
When Nextel drove into Michigan earlier this season for the Citizen Bank 400, the fastest car on the day belonged to Carl Edwards. That win was Edwards’ lone victory of the season, but it was enough to catch the oddsmakers’ eyes, who have tagged him at +900 this weekend.
The bubble drivers who need solid finishes this weekend to stay in the playoff race include Kurt Busch, Ryan Newman and Dale Earnhardt Jr. After winning two weeks ago at Pocono, Busch grabbed the 12th spot in the standings and holds a 96-point lead over 13th-place Newman. Junior fell to 14th place, 100 points back of Kurt Busch after a horrible 42nd-place finish last week at the Glen.
Junior and Busch are both +1200 underdogs this week at Michigan, and Junior should be solely focused on beating Busch this weekend because if he doesn’t, his race for the Chase may be over.
