The college football slate hits its third week this season, with the majority of teams having three games in the books, and a loaded conference slate in front of them. Did you miss our last CFB Futures post?
Here’s a look at three top teams, three mid-level teams, and three long shots, with a recommended pick from each category.
Alabama 7-2
For all the talk of the Tide’s offensive struggles, Lane Kiffin’s done enough with that group to get Alabama to 3-0, and we probably haven’t seen the team play its best football quite yet.
Slaying Ole Miss and exorcising some of those demons is a great first step in getting back to the national title game.
Louisville 6-1
No college football team’s risen up the ranks as quickly as Louisville this season, jumping from No. 10 in the country to No. 3 in the most recent AP poll.

They’ll go as far as leading Heisman Trophy candidate Lamar Jackson will carry them.
Clemson 7-1
We’ve yet to see the best Clemson has to offer, and yet the Tigers are 3-0. The ACC is better than we thought it’d be, but that may only open the door for a one-loss Clemson team to get into the playoff thanks to a tougher strength of schedule.
DeShaun Watson may be the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft come the spring.
The play: Clemson 7-1
Houston 18-1
Two of the toughest games on Houston’s schedule (Oklahoma and Cincinnati) are already in the books, and if the team can get past Louisville on Nov. 17, there isn’t much other resistance on the Cougars’ remaining slate.

The team’s shown it can win in a variety of different ways, and that’s going to mean a lot come Selection Sunday.
Washington 20-1
It was just a matter of time before Chris Petersen made a contender out of the Huskies, and this seems as good a time as any in what’s a bit of a down year for the Pac-12.
If Washington can get hot at the right time, the Pac-12 title and a spot in the playoff will be within reach.
Texas A&M 30-1
During Kevin Sumlin’s time in College Station, the Aggies have made their mark on college football with high-powered offense, but now the team is winning games thanks to a stingy defense that’s limiting opponents to 13.3 points per game while generating plenty of takeaways, already with five interceptions on the season.
The play: Houston 18-1
Michigan State 40-1
The road ahead isn’t easy for Michigan State, but the Spartans’ win at Notre Dame was a great one to add to the resume.
They draw each of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ohio State in East Lansing, which is favorable, so if they can handle their business inside the conference, they’ll be the representative from the Big Ten in the College Football Playoff.
Oklahoma 75-1
There were big expectations placed on Oklahoma coming into this season, and at the moment, it looks like those hopes are out of reach. But consider that Oklahoma’s two losses are to No. 6 Houston and No. 2 Ohio State.

If everything crashes down around them, Oklahoma could be left standing.
Notre Dame 100-1
Like Oklahoma, Notre Dame would need a lot of other teams to fall by the wayside for it to continue playing football in January.
But a loss at an improving Texas program in overtime and a one-score loss to Michigan State will be afterthoughts if the Irish can win out.
The play: Michigan State 40-1
