WHERE EACH TEAM STANDS HEADING INTO WEEK 14
Week 13 of the NFL season is in the books and if it taught us one thing it is not to underestimate any team on any given Sunday. I mean – did anyone see the Eagles win over the Patriots coming? Seriously! For once there is absolutely zero doubt about which team is #1 on the Rankings but after that there is a serious shakeup that has taken place.
NFL Spreads & Matchup Insight
1. Carolina Panthers
(12-0) Last Week – 1
If there is one thing that the Carolina Panthers proved on Sunday it is that they can win any which way. On Sunday it was the offense that picked up the defense. Cam Newton is on fire! With the best defense in the game and an offense that can put up points the way they have, there is no reason to think that Carolina isn’t in line for a ling playoff run.
2. Arizona Cardinals
(10-2) Last Week – 5
The Cardinals looked mighty impressive in dismantling the Rams in Week 13. Their offense was typically terrific – rookie running back David Johnson filled in admirably in the league’s top scoring offense and the defense was sensational as well. If there is a more well-rounded team in the game right now I’d like to see it!
3. Cincinnati Bengals
(10-2) Last Week 4
The Bengals have overcome a bit of a slump and have destroyed their last two opponents by a combined score of 68-10 – they are beating up teams they are supposed to. Andy Dalton continues to remain in the MVP hunt, AJ Green has woken up and the rushing situation seems to have worked itself out. The Bengals are on fire once again – no team wants to face them right now.
4. New England Patriots
(10-2) Last Week – 2
It has been eons since the Pats lost two straight games but that is where we sit at the moment. I am speechless as to why they lost against the pitiful Eagles – speechless. It goes to show ya – if you don’t bring your best you are vulnerable each and every week!
5. Denver Broncos
(10-2) Last Week – 3
I’m not all that convinced that the Broncos are for real – they beat a brutal Chargers team on Sunday and looked somewhat unspectacular in that win. Brock Osweiler has been OK has been OK and is avoiding game-changing mistakes while the defense continues to put this team on its back. The Broncos could go either way right now but are a definite top 5 for the moment!
6. Seattle Seahawks
(7-5) Last Week – 8
A 7-5 team at #6? Believe it. The Hawks absolutely beat down a very good Vikings team in Minnesota in Week 13. Defensively they were predictably good but offensively they continue to be absolutely off the charts. Russell Wilson has posted a QB rating of over 138 in three straight games, Doug Baldwin has become a household name and Thomas Rawls has become one of the most effective runners in the game. Seattle is scary folks – nobody wants to play them right now!
7. Green Bay Packers
(8-4) Last Week – 7
The Packers needed a last-minute hail-Mary TD pass just to remain in the top 10 but as all good teams do – they found a way to win. Call it a miracle – call it divine intervention but the Packers are hanging around and are still in line for a first round bye.
8. Kansas City Chiefs
(7-5) Last Week – 9
The Chiefs have reeled off six straight wins, all without Jamaal Charles. KC’s defense has found another gear and has provided its offense with a ton of turnovers recently. Alex Smith and Jeremy Maclin have discovered a scary chemistry late in the season as well. Sticking with the theme of teams that nobody wants to play consider KC in that category.
9. Pittsburgh Steelers
(7-5) Last Week –11
The Pittsburgh Steelers are the AFC version of the Seahawks and Chiefs – the team that nobody wants to face. The Steelers almost beat Seattle in Week 12 and absolutely destroyed Indianapolis on Sunday night. The offense looks absolutely unstoppable right now and has propelled this team into the top 10.
10. Minnesota Vikings
(8-4) Last Week – 6
The Vikings deserve a mulligan for their effort Sunday but they don’t deserve a whole lot of praise for the way they used Adrian Peterson – he had just 18 yards on the afternoon. Minnesota was forced to play without some key defensive players on Sunday – hopes are that they are back Thursday. The Vikes are still an intriguing team but have not fared well against two of the NFCs top teams – Green Bay and Seattle.
11. New York Jets
(7-5) Last Week 12
The combination of Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brandon Marshall looks pretty special as the season heads into the stretch. Fitz has been a terrific cerebral consistent pivot for a Jets team that had been searching for years. With a solid defense, a good running game and the Marshall and Decker tandem catching passes the Jets look pretty darn formidable.
12. Indianapolis Colts
(6-6) Last Week – 10
Ya, the Colts looked pretty bad on Sunday night but there is very little competition for the final spot in the dirty dozen right now. The Colts somehow still lead the AFC South but they have been far from impressive.
13. Buffalo Bills (6-6) Last Week – 17
14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-6) Last Week – 18
15. New York Giants (5-7) Last Week – 14
16. Washington Redskins (5-7) Last Week – 13
17. Houston Texans (6-6) Last Week – 16
18. Philadelphia Eagles (5-7) Last Week – 24
19. Chicago Bears (5-7) Last Week – 15
20. Oakland Raiders (5-7) Last Week – 19
21. Detroit Lions (4-8) Last Week – 20
22. Miami Dolphins (5-7) Last Week – 25
23. Atlanta Falcons (6-6) Last Week – 21
24. New Orleans Saints (4-8) Last Week – 22
25. San Francisco 49ers (4-8) Last Week – 31
26. Dallas Cowboys (4-8) Last Week – 27
27. San Diego Chargers (3-9) Last Week – 23
28. Tennessee Titans (3-9) Last Week – 28
29. St. Louis Rams (4-8) Last Week – 26
30. Baltimore Ravens (4-8) Last Week – 29
31. Jacksonville Jaguars (4-8) Last Week – 30
32. Cleveland Browns (2-10) Last Week – 32
