Sea Island Golf Club measures just 7,055 yards – length is obviously not a huge determining factor this week. As one of the easier par 70s on TOUR last year it is almost a guarantee that the winner here will have to go low.
Handling the par 4s is essential here but as in years past, a scorching putter will likely be the determining factor.
With that in mind who should we be keeping out eyes on this week? Let’s take a look.
2015 RSM Classic Favorites:
Zach Johnson 14/1
Local guy plays his first event of the season – his first action since the President’s Cup. He was terrific last year posting 10 top 10s and was top 25 in the four FedEx Cup playoff events. He has two top 20s in five tries at this event – surprising considering that this track should be right in his wheel house. Unfortunately track history doesn’t favor him this week – current form on the other hand does.

Matt Kuchar 16/1
Kuchar wasn’t good last week in a fairly watered-down field when he finished T68 at Mayakoba. He had looked pretty good before that – a win in Fiji a few weeks ago was his best result in some time. Kuch is a top 20 player in the world for a reason – he’s darn good. He hasn’t been worse that T25 in four appearances here – a bounce back from last week is inevitable.
Justin Thomas 16/1
Won the CIMB Classic earlier this year and went on to a respectable T27 in China. He has 11 straight cuts made and four top 30s in a row on TOUR – pretty good. He wasn’t great here last year but his stats point to a good finish this week – 35th in strokes gained: putting; T4 in par-4 scoring.

2015 RSM Classic Contenders:
Kevin Kisner 20/1
Local guy finished second at the WGC HSBC Championship in China and will be looking for his first TOUR victory this week. He finished T4 in this event last year and has top 20s in both appearances here. Kisner is overdue for a win and it could come this week.
Patrick Rodgers 20/1
Has finished inside the top 20 in his last four starts and could be the latest of the first-time winners on TOUR. He had a T10 last week and seems to be peaking right now. Rodgers is 22nd in GIR; 12th in adjusted scoring on TOUR – good traits for this particular track.
Russell Henley 25/1
Another local guy finished T4 in this event last year and enters this year in pretty decent form – three straight cuts made ahead of the weekend including a solo 10th at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. He was T1 in par 4 scoring year and top 10 in almost all putting categories – he loves this course.

Henley is a sneaky entry this week and could produce against a less than spectacular field.
Brendon De Jonge 40/1
Lovin me some Brendon de Jonge this week. He finished second in a playoff in this event last year, was T16 in 2013 and T4 in 2011 – nobody has a better course history than de Jonge. Obviously this track suits the Zimbabwean perfectly – you can’t use him very often but this is one such spot.
2015 RSM Classic Sleepers (50/1 or higher):
Spencer Levin 50/1
At 50/1 he looks like great value here.
Roberto Castro 66/1
Has been playing well – a T4 and T25 in last two starts and has played the weekend in his last four tournaments. Castro has been ramping up and could surprise in a less-than-spectacular field.
Michael Thompson 66/1
Finished solo third in the 2011 edition of this event and was T10 in 2012. Sea Island Golf Club rewards hot putters and Thompson is a guy with a terrific flat stick. He hasn’t been against this calibre of golfers in a while but enters looking pretty good.
2015 RSM Classic Picks:
The pick this week is a local guy – there were more than a few choices! I’m going with Kevin Kisner at 20/1. He has quietly been one of the better players on TOUR and is due for a breakthrough. Brendon de Jonge was tempting at 40/1 as well.
The Sleeper this week is Roberto Castro at 66/1. He like Kisner has been lurking and against a watered down field could do some damage.
