El Camaleon Golf Club was one of the easiest courses the PGA pros visited last year – three par 5’s, four par 3’s and 12 par 4’s offer wide and forgiving fairways and pretty standard greens. The winner here will absolutely have to go low!
Those who excel in the wind should do well this week. Hitting greens and converting on the inevitable putts is also critical. Par 4 scoring average is also a stat to keep an eye on.
With that in mind who should we be looking at this week? Let’s take a peek.
2015 OHL Classic at Mayakoba Favorites:
Matt Kuchar 12/1
Makes his first PGA start of the year this week having recorded six top 10s in his last 10 events. He won the Fiji International four weeks ago and was T3 in his last appearance at this event in 2003. He is the highest rated golfer in the field and a default fave.

Jason Bohn 20/1
Has been terrific on TOUR so far this year – a T3 (Frys.com) and T2 (Shriners). He did stumble a bit last week but most are expecting a bounce back this week on a track he’s recorded top 10 finishes in his last two appearances. Bohn is due for a win and could get it on a track he obviously loves.
Russell Knox 20/1
Has played in all four tournaments this young season and finally broke through with a terrific win in China last week. He has some momentum heading into the week – 10 of his last 14 rounds have been below 70. There could be a hangover factor but there is little doubt that Knox is ready for prime time.
2015 OHL Classic at Mayakoba Contenders:
Harris English 20/1
2013 champion has made 15 consecutive cuts and has the game to be right in the hunt again this week. He has top 25 finishes in four of his last five starts overall and should be in the mix again.
[dfads params=’groups=226&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
Patrick Rodgers 20/1
Was in the hunt last week in Mississippi before a disappointing final round. Still, he has four top 20 finishes on TOUR in his last five starts including a T-6 at the Frys.com Open and T-13 at the Shriners Open. He finished T37 here last year in a tournament he was under par in every round. I just wish Rodgers was 40/1 not 20/1!
Patton Kizzire 22/1
Is definitely a name to keep our eyes on. He posted a T2 at the Shriners and a T4 at the Sanderson Farms and had a solid career on the Web.com Tour. Kizzire is a name that many are pointing at for a breakthrough sooner than later – that breakthrough could come this week.
Brendan Steele 25/1
Has been good to start the season – a T17 at Silverado and a T3 in Malaysia at the CIMB Classic. He was also in the hunt in the Frys.com. Steele is a heavy hitter and a name to watch this week for sure.
Charley Hoffman 25/1
Defending champion here shot no worse than a 68 in four rounds in 2014. He loves this track and should be in the mix again.
2015 OHL Classic at Mayakoba Sleepers (50/1 or higher):
Keegan Bradley 50/1
It’s hard to believe that Bradley has fallen off the radar so quickly. He’s 50/1 against a pretty weak field – should do well.
[dfads params=’groups=219&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
David Hearn 50/1
In a year of first time winners – it could be David Hearn’s turn. He had four top 10s on TOUR last year and has never missed a cut in this event. He was T15 last year and is a sneaky entry this year.
2015 OHL Classic at Mayakoba Picks:
I like Patrick Rodgers at 20/1 this week. Like I said – I wish he was 40/1. He was good in three rounds last week and has top 25 finishes in all three starts this year.
The sleeper is David Hearn at 50/1. He may be the best guy to not have won in the field and in a season of first time winners Hearn is the best bet this week.
