It’s a Pacific Division matchup as the San Jose Sharks head to the Staples Center in LA to take on the Kings on Wednesday night.
The Sharks are coming off a solid win over Winnipeg while the Kings will look to grab a win after losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday night.
San Jose Sharks
The immediate news for the Sharks is that center Logan Couture’s status for Wednesday’s game against the Kings is unknown as of now. He was forced from the last game with an upper body injury and it hasn’t been determined if he’ll play Wednesday.

If Couture is out, the Sharks lose a solid center with 14 goals and 13 assists on the season. Over his last five games, Couture had two goals.
Two-way defenseman Brent Burns will look to generate even more offense than usual if Couture is out. On the season, he has 18 goals and 27 assists.
He has three goals and five assists over his last five games. Burns has been the best offensive player on the Sharks, despite being a defenseman.
Center Joe Pavelski will look to generate more offense on the top-line with Couture out. He has 15 goals and 25 assists on the season, and has two goals and three assists over his last five games.
The Sharks’s bread and butter is defense and they rank 4th in the league in goals against. They’ll look to stifle the Los Angeles offense to get the win.
Los Angeles Kings
On the injury front for Los Angeles, Anze Kopitar will not play on Wednesday night because of an unspecified illness.
The Kings have had a pretty disappointing season, all things considered. LA sits 5th in the Pacific Division and will need to do a lot in order to gain ground and have a shot at the playoffs.
The defense certainly hasn’t been the problem for the Kings, as the team has given up just 110 goals on the season. That’s an average of just 2.5 goals against per game, good for 6th in the NHL in that category.

Unfortunately, the offense hasn’t been able to take any pressure off the defense.
The Kings have 111 goals on the year, 2.52 per game, and haven’t been able to gut out close games because of the lack of offensive prowess.
Center Jeff Carter continues to be the best weapon the Kings have. He has 23 goals and 17 assists on the year, including two goals and five assists over his last five games.
NHL Betting Trends:
- The Total has gone OVER in three of San Jose’s last five games
- Los Angeles is 3-2-0 in the last five games
Free San Jose Sharks vs. Los Angeles Kings NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Sharks defense and goaltending have won them a lot of games this year. I think Wednesday night will be similar. San Jose should be able to generate the offense to get the win at Staples Center.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: San Jose ML
The Sharks’ defense should get it done against a Los Angeles team that has trouble scoring consistently. The San Jose money line is a good choice here.
