Big playoff implications on the line during a Saturday afternoon game between the Pens and Flyers. Philly has been one of the hottest teams in the NHL of late, and the Penguins are just clinging to a narrow margin over the Flyers for the top wild card spot.
Pittsburgh
The Penguins got some devastating injury news with regards to Evgeni Malkin who will miss 6-8 weeks. This puts the workload on the shoulder of Sidney Crosby in a big way, but the secondary scoring has to pick it up, now more than ever.

Phil Kessel has bee mostly disappointing for the Pens, who probably had him pegged as a 40 goal man playing alongside either Crosby or Malkin.
Kessel has managed just 20 goals thus far, and has had a tough time finding his place it seems. Same goes for Chris Kunitz who looks as if he’s lost a step this year and has a mere 14 goals and 34 points.
What the Pens do have though is an ability to flip the switch at any time, and Crosby is still one of the best players in the league who can take over a game at a moment’s notice.
The Pens have not had an easy time with their state rivals going back to last season and have just one win in their last five meetings, although that did come in their last meeting on January 21.
Philadelphia
Perhaps the hottest team in the league right now, the Flyers have really found their form and they may get Jakob Voracek back for Saturday which can’t hurt. Or can it?
The Flyers have largely ridden the chemistry of their new top line that includes Claude Giroux, Wayne Simmonds and new addition Brayden Schenn.
The latter of the three has really found a spot on the top line and it’ll be interesting to see if Voracek is thrown right back into the fray on the top line.
Surprise rookie Shayne Gostisbehere has been simply amazing for the Flyers and has 39 points in 51 games, those are impressive rookie numbers for a forward, but for a defenceman that is just flat out awesome and he deserves a few looks for the Calder Trophy.

Steve Mason should get the start on Saturday, but both goalies have performed pretty well this year for Philly and Michael Neuvirth is probably the best “back up goalie” in the league with a 2.28 GAA and .925 SV% to go with a 17-8-4 record.
His stats are actually better than Mason’s.
Philly is riding momentum big time with wins on back to back nights over Detroit and Chicago.

Free Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Philadelphia Flyers NHL Hockey Predictions
State rivals in a big game means this one should be a feisty affair. The Pens finally snapped a losing skid against the Flyers but this is a different Philly team that is playing some of their best hockey of the season at the right time.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Flyers -110
Philly at home and well rested after two days off, I think they keep the momentum rolling and beat the Pens to make the wildcard race in the East even more interesting.
